Every city in the world seems to have these Japanese grifters. When Japanese are overseas, they will always give their trust to the one Japanese guy they meet rather than to the locals of any other nationality, no matter how sleazy that Japanese guy may be,

So, he is actually Japanese (or first generation US). Why did so many people give him so much money over such and extended period of time? “A fool and his money are easily parted!”

Hey , the guy is 79 years old, he's had a good innings, now is payback time, prison would probably seem like a holiday camp vacation, free food , free health care, no utility bills. It doesn't matter what the state throws at him, in regards to how many years he gets, the question is how many more years has he got left in him. That's life, we all have to pay sooner or later.

The article says "more than 10,000 Japanese residents." The article is datelined Las Vegas, so technically it means they're residents of the city. Seems like a case of bad writing/editing.
