Good, I hope investors get back at least some of what they were duped out of if not all.

@JeffLee
The victims were in Japan not Las Vegas
GG2141
I suppose when you consider the investors were hoping to profit from uncollected medical bills, you could argue they reaped what they sowed. Misery.
kurisupisu
Mr Fujinaga certainly conned his relatives back in Japan!
JeffLee
10,000 victims would seem to be a large portion of the city's Japanese population
sensei258
If he was really smart he would have done this in Japan where he would get a suspended sentence because of his age
Chip Star
His age coupled with his family name.

Every city in the world seems to have these Japanese grifters. When Japanese are overseas, they will always give their trust to the one Japanese guy they meet rather than to the locals of any other nationality, no matter how sleazy that Japanese guy may be,
Goodlucktoyou
Why did it take so long to notice the guy is suddenly so rich?
PTownsend
@Toshiko-san, what have you heard?
Do the hustle
So, he is actually Japanese (or first generation US). Why did so many people give him so much money over such and extended period of time? “A fool and his money are easily parted!”
minello7
Hey , the guy is 79 years old, he's had a good innings, now is payback time, prison would probably seem like a holiday camp vacation, free food , free health care, no utility bills. It doesn't matter what the state throws at him, in regards to how many years he gets, the question is how many more years has he got left in him. That's life, we all have to pay sooner or later.
K3PO
Excellent pointed headline.

@kurisupisu
The article says "more than 10,000 Japanese residents." The article is datelined Las Vegas, so technically it means they're residents of the city. Seems like a case of bad writing/editing.
Concerned Citizen
It amazes me how so many people are so trusting with thier money.

@commanteer.
So true. The apple does not fall far the tree. Thay all gather at the trunk of the tree and get harvested eventually.
And it's not just with the Japanese.
