A 17-year-old teenager suspected of stabbing a 37-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter as they returned home in Kitakyushu on Saturday night was killed after being hit by a train a short time later, police said Sunday.

According to police, the woman and her daughter returned home at around 10 p.m. when the teenager came out of their house through the front door, Kyodo News reported. He charged at the woman and her daughter and stabbed them both in the stomach. He dropped the knife and ran away.

A passerby saw the attack and called 110. The victims were taken to hospital. Police said Sunday they were both in a serious but stable condition.

About 30 minutes after the attack, the suspect was hit by a train near JR Minamikokura Station. Police said his description matched that of the teenager who stabbed the woman and her daughter, as given by the passerby who witnessed the attack.

On Monday, police said the teenager, who lived in Tokyo, was known to the 15-year-old girl and that they had become acquaintances online.

Makes me wonder whether we'll ever learn of the motive. So he attacked them outside their home as they were approaching the front door? Was getting hit by the train his way of committing suicide? Anyway, I hope the mother and daughter will survive and put this unfortunate incident behind them.

he'll need some time off after what happened.

One of my friends sister is a train driver for JR. It kind of sucks but she says that most drivers don't really get affected by it anymore since it happens so much during their career. Almost weekly on most large lines. Of course they get support from JR when it happens and get a few days off, but she mentioned it doesnt really weigh on most of the drivers so much. It's not really avoidable in most cases so they just chalk it up to part of the job.

At least the victims survived this time.

Really pleasing news to hear this sick, violent man died.

Hoping for a complete recovery of the poor , innocent mother and daughter.

Who? Why?

The so-called "man" who stabbed the woman and her daughter is in fact a seventeen-year-old boy, and he is acquainted with the 15-year-old daughter through a SMS messaging website.

That was very quick karma if I can say so myself. Whether he offed himself or not. My thoughts for the train driver though, he'll need some time off after what happened.

Oops?

Aside from the cleanup, that was a great way to close the case, time saving. Minus one madman.

I just don't understand. I can get suicide, but where does the will to destroy innocent lives come from?

Police said his description matched that of the man who stabbed the woman and her daughter, as given by the passerby who witnessed the attack.

That doesn't mean it was the same person. They really shouldn't draw that conclusion based just on that information.

I'm curious if the victims were able to identify the body as the assailant? Or, if the identity of the dead man is someone they know? (He came out of their house, so it's a distinct possibility.)

Still a lot of holes in this story, probably because the information isn’t yet available. What his motivation was, why attack both the girl he was distantly acquainted with and the mother? Was his demise suicide or accident?

Not condoning what he did, but he's still a 17 year old BOY.

I don't wish him to die in this manner. I would have preferred that he turn himself in, and rehabilitated.

During what is supposed to be a solemn time, half a dozen attempted or successfully enacted murder-suicides this Obon.

Almost weekly? I've seen housecats get hit by cars and it had disturbed me for months and even years. Needless to say, I don't have the mental toughness of those drivers. But a nearly weekly occurrence? This is something you don't read on the news, thanks for sharing.

There is a growing Mental Health issue amongst youths within Japan, one for which has little support either Professionally or from Society - it's simply not recognized.

There needs to be a study to see if there's some common causal trigger amongst all these cases, though as far as I know, nothing, is being done about it.

Sorry that happened and GOOD, on the second half.

Should have just done the latter and left them alone.

WhAt is happening here?

well, hopefully the women recover and the suspect burns in hell.

Sorry to say but we will see more of this kind of things happening. Japan says it is a safe country but for how long. Joblessness, homelessness, mental illnesses are just some of the things that are the underlying reasons why these things will come to the forefront. The government will have its hands full little or nothing is being done, sooner or later it will get out of control and this is just the beginning.

Poetic justice and Karma. May he burn in hell forever.

At least the two female victims are in a stable condition, unfortunate that he also had to involve the train conductor and likely force him to have a terrible experience as well.

This happened Kitakyushu, one of the baddest places in Japan. It maybe possible he was pushed in front of the train.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

If he was a resident of Tokyo, then why did the 17-year-old assailant travel 800 kilometres to Tatebayashimachi in Kitakyushu City?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Sounds like an unsuccessful murder-suicide.

Lots of "missing" information from this story. Who is the mystery man? The police know..... Most likely the husband or ex husband and father of the victims.

Burglar caught in the act. Stabbed the poor women to try and escape realises he went way too far and commits suicide. Case closed. One less ahole on the streets
