Woman dies after falling out of moving car; driver arrested

Never argue in a car, especially when alcohol is involved. Wait until you get home. 3 lives ruined.

I find it hard that the driver could push someone out, especially if they were wearing a seat belt. I've been in a car arguing with a woman a couple of times and the first time the woman grabbed the steering wheel and almost made me drive off into a small canyon. After that incident, when requested to stop, I did just that. She got out and then I kept going. This guy should have done the same thing.

Pretty much impossible to push someone from a moving car especially if they’re wearing a seatbelt. If she was pushed, he must have stopped the car, she opened the door and then he gave her a push and drove off. He probably went back a few minutes later to pick her up and found her in that state. Maybe he was drunk but he didn’t kill her. The other driver killed her. If he had called emergency services immediately after returning to the scene, since everything was captured on cctv, I’m pretty sure he would have had his license revoked and community service.

I have been driving cars and motorcycles for decades in Japan and plenty of people have jumped out on me too but I have never hit them.

However, the cops will always assume the vehicle driver has some percentage of responsibility and if death were involved then the penalties are severe.

She definitely jumped. There’s no way a driver can teach that far onto the passenger seat, or open the door, let alone push someone while driving.

The other car that hit her can’t stop of it’s the expressway.

If you've seen the CCTV (broadcast on TV news), you can see Hikaru exit the car and tumble a short distance. The car didn't appear to be driving at high speeds. You can then see Moriya slow the car down for a moment and then drive off. The video then cuts to the next car which seemed to be driving quite fast in comparison to Moriya completely plough through (the video is paused just before impact). It then cuts to when Moriya returns. He gets out of his car, looks at Hikaru, then leaves.

What I don't understand is how is the second driver not being charged with manslaughter? Hikaru clearly didn't jump out in front of the car. She was already laying in the road. I thought it was the driver's responsibility to be aware and avoid all traffic hazards. Definitely suspicious.

The driver cannot push out the woman if he was driving. Probably the woman jumped out of the car. Anyway, what a waste of life for these two young people. They both lost control of the argument they had.

Well, the only person that really committed a crime is the person driving the car that hit Hikaru Mori and kept going. As for Genki Moriya if Hikaru actually jumped out of the car than he is innocent as for him stopping well depending on the flow of traffic he probably was not able to stop on a dime and had to continue until he found a place to turn around and return to check on Hikaru....

Unless he's got Huggy Wuggy arms, I doubt he was able to push her out of the car while driving. She probably jumped out.

No, Kurisupisu, not true. I hit a guy who jumped out in front of me on my motorbike. He said he looked. I said it was attempted suicide. The cops let me go.

Lots of assumptions here!!! JT reports as if Genki Moriya the driver of the car was driving and Hikaru Mori opened the door and was possibly pushed out, then JT reports that the police said Hikaru Mori demanded Genki Moriya stop the car so that she could GET OUT as if the car was stopped and it is presumed she was hit by another car?? One would think that if a trailing car was behind Genki he would have saw the brake lights and stopped. My thinking is perhaps she opened the door wanting him to stop and he didn't and at some point while still driving with the door open he pushed her out in the heat of the argument. The report states that after she fell out of the car, Moriya kept going. If she had jumped out on her own one would think Genki would have stopped but because he didn't stop this would indicate he pushed her out this to would explain why Hikaur was hit struck by another vehicle because the trailing vehicle had no time to stop because Genki did not apply his brakes indicating he was stopping! Other questions why would Moriya returned to the scene later and then leave. Criminals always return to the scene of the crime he knew what he did and came up with a lame excuse saying that he and the woman had been arguing and she demanded he stop the car so she could get out. GUILTY as he pushed her out!!!

In Japan, hitting a pedestrian automatically makes a driver liable.

I used to wonder why Japanese drivers seem to avoid stopping and it is due to a complete failure of the Japanese police to consider extenuating circumstances.

As he was driving the car, he could not have opened the door to push her out. Being so emotionally upset, she must have opened the door herself to go out without realizing the speed of the car and that other cars were following.

The boyfriend's car didn't hit her. And, she may have even voluntarily gotten out of his car. His only crime for sure was returning to the scene, seeing she had been hit by a car, and leaving the scene without helping.

Of course, if there's evidence he pushed her out, that's a horse of a different color. But, it's still not as bad as the hit and run driver's crime.

Also, he turned himself in only after all the alcohol left his system.

In other words, only after he had realized what had happened.

How often do people in other countries turn themselves in for committing a crime? Although it's relatively small in Japan, compared to other countries it must he pretty high.
