Accused groper on train escapes by jumping onto tracks at Tokyo's Akabane Station

A man accused of groping a woman in a train car on the JR Saikyo Line escaped by jumping onto the tracks at Akabane Station in Tokyo's Kita Ward on Wednesday night.

It was the third time this month that an accused groper has resorted to jumping onto the tracks to escape in the Tokyo metropolitan area. One of the earlier incidents -- on March 14 -- also occurred on the Saikyo Line at Ikebukuro Station, while the other case took place near Ochanomizu Station.

In Wednesday's incident, which occurred at around 8:25 p.m., a woman yelled at a man whom she accused of groping her and held onto his arm until the train reached Akabane Station, Sankei Shimbun reported. As they stepped from the train onto the platform, the suspect broke free and jumped onto the tracks. A station employee called 110 but the suspect eluded a police search of the area.

JR officials said train services were delayed for about 30 minutes.

Police said they are looking at station surveillance camera footage to try and identify the suspect.

a woman yelled at a man... and held onto his arm until the train reached Akabane Station

But what did all the other passengers do while this was happening? Sorry, stupid question!!

This guy might be a JT reader. Just a few days back the conversation was all about this topic....

The police should investigate the JT commenters

JT is nothing special, in any place where news about gropers are commented you will find a lot of people saying that unfortunately running away appears to be the only real defense against a false accusation.

Could it be the same dude?

Could it be the same dude?

Could be. Although in this case the so called 'accused groper" would be promoted to "serial groper', unless the man in question can prove that a/he just got wrongly accused for the 3rd time in about a month, b/ although he looks/smells/walks like the quintessential chikan he's actually a very decent bloke!

I think the "police should investigate JT blokes, the guy must have read JT etc" comments were said tongue firmly in cheek. Reckon you can all sleep sound tonight.

Cameras on trains are way way way overdue.

Why are there so many gropers?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

As advised to do by many a JT poster. now he just has to resist the urge to turn himself in.

Seems like "jump and run" is the way to go. Be sure to run away from the back of the train on the same track

Second one in a short time has the gropening started?

Every time I read these kinds of stories, I visualize some of the scenes from the film The Great Escape.

omg this stuff really happening in world this is so grose shame on groper do you have any human morals ?

The number of these cases it is starting to sound like a scam.

Timely topic.

Hopefully he was an innocent, rather than a guilty man escaping.

Good question Ken. While I'm sure there are still sickos out there who enjoy doing this kind of thing, I'm scared that some women falsely accuse for their own entertainment (or whatever reason)

This is impressive; All tracks at Akabane station are elevated for at least a couple of kilometers, in the case of Saikyo line the tracks are elevated until the next station down the line so it's surprising he'd be able to elude the police while stuck in that concrete duct.

The police should investigate the JT commenters, there were a few users a few days ago that indicated this was their favoured tactic

The question on the other topic, to which we were replying, was What advice would you give to a man wrongly accused of groping by a woman on a crowded train? When one is wrongly accused, there is no 'favored' tactic, as ideally it will never even happen once, much less more than that. Rather, there is just a reaction to a terrible event.

Tightly packed trains with sleepy overworked salary men not paying attention to their surroundings and mistakenly brushing someone causing them to mistakenly allegate.

Why are there so many gropers?

If you consider that millions men ride trains in Tokyo or Osaka each day alone and compare it to the number of Chikan cases it's extremely low. I'm willing to bet its .0001%

The cowardly creeps are out early this year. They usually peak in summer.

If he was guilty, may be she should have tasered him? Bit difficult to run after that!
