Accused groper on train escapes by jumping onto tracks

A man accused of groping a woman on a train escaped by jumping onto the tracks and running away at JR Ochanomizu Station in Tokyo’s Chiyoda Ward, police said Tuesday.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 1 p.m. Monday. Fuji TV reported that the suspect boarded the train on the Sobu Line at Akihabara Station and allegedly touched the lower body of a 27-year-old female passenger. When the train arrived at Ochanomizu Station, the woman yelled at him. The man hurriedly left the train and then jumped onto the tracks, fleeing in the direction of Akihabara Station.

A station employee called police to report the incident.

The man is believed to be in his 30s to 40s and was wearing black clothing from head to toe. Police are looking at station surveillance camera footage to try and identify him.

The fact that this makes the news in a country of 126 million people reminds us all how safe a country we have the privilege >>of living in.

"Man beats stranger to death in order to get arrested"

A country so safe that anybody can be beaten to death so one can get arrested, most of the crimes are either not reported or dismissed by the police so please can we stop with this "fairytale" of Japan being safe, it is safe only until you step on some weirdos and japan has a lot of them...

This made the news because the women screamed and people saw this guy fleeing on the tracks. If you think this country is safe, you're clearly a man who doesn't seem to understand the number of women who are victim to gropers each and every day. Comments like yours are why so many women here don't bother to report assaults and attacks. And that is what this was.

The man is believed to be in his 30s to 40s and was wearing black clothing from head to toe. ** So the accuse was dressed like Ninja?

Maybe he was a ninja.

Some of these women are in gangs, and they have their little friends to back up their accusations, all on the pay role of course. Falsely accused Japanese men can end up spending months in prison if they won't "confess". They lose their wives, jobs, homes, the lot. Some of them commit suicide due to such allegations.

Hullo @hampton - got any links to news articles or other evidence to back up what you have written, with information more specific than "some" ?

goldorak, wish that were true, but it isn't. Doesn't matter you're foreign or not either. Falsely accused Japanese men can end up spending months in prison if they won't "confess". They lose their wives, jobs, homes, the lot. Some of them commit suicide due to such allegations. The man has no chance to win unfortunately. All men here are fully aware of what can happen if accused of groping, falsely or otherwise.

If you've done nothing wrong there is no need to apologise, run, hide etc.

Havent been inside a small windowless room have you now champ?!

Are there surveillance cameras on trains? I know it would be hard to see during rush hour but there are of course groping incidences outside of rush hour too.

It seems bad people are every where of the world. They no religion and relative. They have lost their morality.

I hope that the case isn't false accusation. If it isn't any longer, perhaps he should change his job beconing stunt actor.

Although I do get posters' "as the dice are loaded against the accused, especially if gaijin, you better run" mantra, I still don't think it is the right nor wise thing to do, unless you're leaving the country soon after.

If you've done nothing wrong there is no need to apologise, run, hide etc. Dunno if this bloke is guilty or not but jumping on tracks after someone's yelled she's just been groped seems a bit 'final', especially if you haven't done anything wrong.

One thing is certain though, he was well aware of the seriousness of such act/crime (whether he did it or not).

Let's remember that he was only accused, not convicted. And would he deserve a horrible death anyway? I'd run even though I was innocent. otherwise he'll be incarcerated and interrogated until he confesses, guilty or not.

I agree. Nothing good can come from hanging around waiting for the cops in this case, since it's a one-sided verdict. I wouldn't run on the tracks, but I'd damn well do whatever I could to get away from anyone accusing me of this.

In Japan it's quite important sometimes to just turn and walk away (escape) if wrongfully accused, especially a local vs a foreigner. If you are wrongfully accused and can't get away, you should promptly make an accusation yourself and go to the police. If you end up being accused and not the accuser, being that you were beaten to it, you will be treated as a suspect and not an innocent one either. Being first is everything here.

its a pity a train wasn't coming...

And if he touched her on "accident' but it happens... then he should keep running! No one is every going to believe that! Like... move to another Island.

sobu line? isnt it hard to get out from tracks?

The suspect in such a bizarre costume is thought of as molesting the woman in the train from the start. Hope, with help of the surveillance camera footage, the groper is arrested in due course.
