Accused groper who jumped onto train tracks to escape arrested

Police in Tokyo on Wednesday arrested a 41-year-old unemployed man who had fled from a train Tuesday and jumped onto the tracks after being accused of groping a woman passenger.

The suspect, Satoru Fukushima, who lives in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, has denied groping the woman and said his hand accidentally came into contact with her body, Fuji TV reported.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 8:35 a.m. on the JR Saikyo line between Jujo and Itabashi stations. The woman, in her 20s, claims Fukushima fondled her buttocks and that she grabbed his hand until the train arrived at the station.

As they were getting off the train, another passenger helped the woman hold onto Fukushima, but he managed to slip out of his jacket, then ran along the platform and jumped onto the tracks.

Police said they identified Fukushima and learned his address from an ID card and other papers in the jacket left by the suspect on the platform.

Tokyo metropolitan police said that since March, there have been at least seven cases of accused gropers jumping onto train tracks to escape.

Does suspect, Satoru Fukushima employment status affect the movement of his hand coming accidentally into contact with this ladies body?

Satoru Fukushima certainly in a state of sheer panic risked his life by jumping onto the track to make his getaway, did Fukushima lack the confidence to stand his ground and proclaim his innocence to accusations of being a groper? Or his guilty conscience took over, and this ladies courage and conviction in grabbed his hand until the train arrived at the station prove Fukushima guilt ? .......

Either way this is trail by media.  Police should not have publicly named the accused until completion of the judicial process.

You know, there just aren't that many women who have the courage to grab gropers and report them. AND, there just aren't that many psycho women out there who accuse people of groping. so i'm just going to go out on a limb and trust the women on this.

Whoa. Wait up. That is just all kinds of wrong there. There are a lot of psycho women out there who do exactly that. Fact is, it is a business. My co-workers and I were once falsely accused of sexual harassment and groping of a student so many years ago. The woman only wanted money. She paid for classes six times over a two year period and never said a word to management. One day we were all brought into the bosses office and told that all eight of us were accused of touching her, suggesting that we could go to a hotel and other such things over that two year period. We all laughed cause the woman was not the princess at all and actually that it was a joke. It was humiliating for us. Some of us were quite young and very monogomaus. She was also much older than all of us. All she wanted was ALL of her money back. ALL OF IT!!!!! I have known people who were falsely accused by opportunistic women with only one thing on their minds, just like her, MONEY. Women can be JUST as dishonest as men. Every single week a lawyer came to our office and tried to get us to admit that we COULD have done something and just MAYBE we forgot. Nothing could have been further from the truth. That still haunts me today. It was a nightmare. This is another reason why I will not get into an elevator with a woman and without witnesses and when I rarely ride the train, I try to stay away from ALL women. Humiliating is really understating it. That woman put us through hell and she didn't care one bit. She never stopped. MONEY!!!

So if you run or not, i'm gonna assume you're guilty.

No proof whatsoever??? You gotta be kidding me. . .

@tcapan

So, to sum up, the majority of men who post on JT sympathize with their fellow boys, b/c apparently there's hard data indicating that most women who report being groped are lying and out to get money from the poor downtrodden salarymen, who really just want a nice quiet ride on the train while reading their Lolicon.

Nobody even said that. Right is right and wrong is wrong. If a dude touches a woman without her consent, look him up, but you need proof first. There are many people who get money this way. It sure does happen more that YOU are willing to admit. Oh, and by the way, most men are not reading THOSE kinds of magazines.

SMH that you two just ASSUME that the guy is always lying. Totally uncool.

It can be a challenge to avoid inappropriate contact with on crowded trains. I always keep my hands as high as possible to avoid any misconceptions. However, I think this loser is only lying to cover his actions.

While this is most certainly a problem, starting to believe their is a scam going on.

There is, I believe, a group of men, who tells those who feel they have been wrongly accused of groping to run.

I don't know if I count as a group, and I'm certainly not an active member in any such group, but if I were falsely accused of groping I'd run.

if you ain't got a job where do you need to be, that you have to cram on to the overloaded Saikyo line at 8:30 in morning?

Job interview, maybe. Just kidding, couldn't help :)

Or sometimes women just wanting to get paid

Chances of that are between zero and nil. It happens only in the movies or maybe rare cases in real life but with a male heavy society like here, doubt it'd be risked as repurcussions can be nasty. To put it simply, just compare the chances of it being the case of a male pervert against that of a female con-star.

By that logic, anyone who is ever accused of anything is guilty. Because there just aren't that many cases where people are accused and they didn't actually do it.

May as well do away with trials. Just throw them all in jail, right?

I am sure quite a few of you are aware how much I rail against the railroad companies. Here is another reason. They need to separate men and women on the trains. Separate cars, because there are too many men out there who are pathetic enough to enjoy groping innocent women on the train to get their jollies. Sad and pathetic excuses for men!

But also, sometimes these women either get it wrong or are out to get paid. If I ride the train, and believe me, is extremely rare, I keep both hands up and if there is a woman standing near me, I get as far away as I can. There have been scams with the so-called boyfriend waiting on the platform. Or sometimes women just wanting to get paid. Since we can not see all that is going on, if you don't have proof, then it didn't happen should be the deal. But it is not. There have been lives that have been ruined because of this. Either the women got the wrong guy, it didn't happen and the guy didn't want to pay money for something that he didn't do. I'm sorry ladies, we can not just go on YOUR word that it happened. Since we can not see what is actually going on, the genders need to be separated.

And yes, if you are falsely accused, you better run. Cause the courts here take the ladies word over yours unless you have actual proof.

Saikyo line is a terrible line, always crowded in has cameras on some cars. It is common to mention employment status in Japan for crimes I know, but this is one case where it is a bit important, I mean if you ain't got a job where do you need to be, that you have to cram on to the overloaded Saikyo line at 8:30 in morning? I hope the cops ask him that question. I wish these crimes were taken more seriously in Japan need to hardline this perversion.

Wonder if he's responsible for all 7. Though given the Darwin award worthy ID card in the jacket, I suspect not.

Agree with Disillusioned and Strangerland, it's not only can be a challenge to avoid contact inside crowded trains, moreover there are potential situations where the groping victim even doesn't see whole incident the victim just felt something from behind, then any persons from behind will get the blame. There are several people that plead their innocence in the past, some of them lucky enough to get good chance in court system. Please refer cases Naoki Ito's case and Masahiro Nakura's case. Even if you asked any lawyer in Japan they would recommend just RUN if you got accused, nothing more. Read this https://www.japantoday.com/smartphone/view/crime/guilty-and-never-proven-innocent-every-male-train-riders-nightmare-in-japan

In less crowded train, this kind of incident would be more obvious. Story accused groper escaped by running the track happened several times last March which happened at Ikebukuro Station and Akabane station. Those incident didn't happen during rush hour. Given similarity of stories, Satoru Fukushima might become the suspect for those cases.

Yikes! The Saikyo Line train that I use each morning does pass between Akabane and Ikebukuro between 8:30 and 8:45. I usually sit in Car #1 which is the rear car going into Tokyo. I have never noticed any chikan activity. But then again, I'm always sitting down and sleeping until the train reaches Shinjuku.

I did notice our train was a little late yesterday. Hmmm?

I recall going to lunch with a lady acquaintance in Osaka one day. During the lunch I knew she was not feeling so well and we weren't really hitting it off as she was saying I'm sorry but I shouldn't of come down from Nagoya and wasted the train fare. When she went to the toilet I slipped a few thousand yen into her breast jacket pocket she had left on the chair as a gesture to cover her costs of travel.

When we departed company I said to her to check her pocket. She said there is nothing in it. I then pointed to it and said please check it. Again she said there's nothing in it. Then I touched the pocket... oh that was a mistake and she started yelling "you touched my breast, you touched my breast!". I just looked at her in disbelief and walked away. About 15 metres away I looked back and she was holding the money I put in her pocket in her hand.

I felt ridiculous and had no intention of groping her but also felt somewhat guilty and embarrassed... if police had attended I would have pleaded not guilty...

There is, I believe, a group of men, who tells those who feel they have been wrongly accused of groping to run. They say the accused will be unfairly treated. Unlike women.

I suppose the psychology now is becoming, If you run, you must be innocent.

Well they caught the creep. His methods were previously mentioned by some JT posters as their favoured tactics as well, so there are still scores of them out there who need to be hunted

Who said that? I think you were having some reading comprehension issues with what was actually said.

Chances of that are between zero and nil.

Really? I'm sure that will make this guys' mom feel better: https://japantoday.com/category/features/kuchikomi/mother-of-falsely-accused-groper-who-killed-himself-wants-justice

And maybe read some of these: http://www.jiadep.org/Groping_Molestation.html

Nice rhetoric, but there is no sympathy with gropers, only those who are falsely accused. Those who grope deserve everything they get.
