Aichi woman arrested for mixing human excrement into school lunch

On June 13, a 20-year-old employee of a public school in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, was charged with mixing human feces into the lunch there. More specifically it was found in the okazu of the lunch, which loosely translates to “side dish” and refers to the non-rice component of a meal. It’s a pretty wide-ranging term that can refer to pretty much any food from fried chicken to a brick of tofu.

The incident occurred on Oct 8, 2021, when the principal of the school taste-tested the okazu of the day’s meal in advance in the staff room and noticed that it had a peculiar odor and discoloration. He immediately canceled the meal for everyone else and submitted the food to the public health center for examination. The results confirmed that it contained E. coli bacteria, and even though the okazu was made in a separate central facility, no other schools had any trace of fecal matter in their food.

Thanks to the keen senses and quick action of the principal, none of his students or staff members were exposed to the contaminated food and did not suffer any illness as a result. A subsequent investigation led back to the staff member, though it is unclear what her motive was or how she managed to mix the excrement into the food.

She is charged with fraudulent obstruction of business, which wouldn’t be the first crime that springs to mind when someone attempts to poison an entire school. She is currently denying the charge.

Readers of the news were naturally appalled by such a heinous act, but more were surprised by the intervention of the principal, with some a little surprised that a part of their job is checking the school lunch before everyone else in the school eats it.

“That’s too scary.”

“That principal is pretty amazing.”

“Who knew it would be useful to have the principal test the food before serving?”

“Principals seriously check the school lunch for poison every day?!”

“I remember hearing about principals doing that, but I never knew it was real.”

“This is the first time I heard of the principal’s food inspection working!”

“Was there so much in there that you could tell just by smelling and looking at it?!”

“I wonder if she was targeting the principal directly.”

It’s not done in all schools, but in Japan there is a custom of a principal or vice principal eating lunch about 30 minutes before everyone else. Although it is sometimes referred to as a dokumi or “food taster” in the sense of someone checking for poison, it’s not clear whether that’s the primary concern, since food poisoning often can’t be detected at the moment of eating and won’t take effect within 30 minutes of eating. More likely it’s just to check that the quality and flavor of the food are up to snuff, or merely as a formality.

Good on the principal for doing this part of his job seriously, he prevented a disgusting incident that could even have serious repercussions on the health of many children.

I wonder what her motive was.

Rather disturbing breakfast reading this morning..... I have many questions but... Nah...

3 ( +7 / -4 )

She must have added quite a lot for it to be noticed by odour and colour...

9 ( +12 / -3 )

One for your Sunday morning coffee that one! JOOOIIZUS! Principals a hero!!

7 ( +11 / -4 )

(O__O)

OK, you’ve got to be kidding me. I wanna know who allowed this animal to work in a school...

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Hey man, I'm eating breakfast! Didn't need this.

The principal musy have very sensitive taste buds. Most of the school lunches I had over the years tasted like poop to begin with. (sarcastic joke)

Glad he picked up on it. This could have resulted in severe food poisoning and possibly even death.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

That's a pretty crappy thing to do

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

and post articles about this………

that woman also needs to be deleted.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

Kudos to the Principal!! And condolences as well... and while it may be clear to those here who the perp really is, any jury who would hang someone on the evidence presented here should be hung themselves. Such behavior is NOT 'criminal', per se, because it is seriously psychotic and an examination by an insightful and trained person will reveal other 'tells' of fulminant psychosis. And how many people work in the kitchen? And, just to add to the craziness, the charge for this being "fraudulent obstruction of business" puts the cherry on this [....] Sundae.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Everybody who has worked in the hospitality business knows what goes on with meals drinks of extremely obnoxious customers.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Not criminal per se but punish her and get her to eat her own fecal matter. There should be a law that involves allowing punishment to be the same as the crime. Like for like.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

For the him to notice the smell and color it must have large amount.. really gross, I wonder what her mental state is

3 ( +7 / -4 )

A chage of destruction of property (Japanese penal code article 261) would be more appropriate here.

When the principal of the school taste -tested the okazu

Yikes !....

" And the school principal wins the prize for the fastest high speed regurgitation " .

This is where the term " verbal diarrhea " really isn't funny !

This is the most disgusting stomach churning news with morning coffee.

Yuk !

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Some kind of non-verbal protest.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

The newest super hero strikes again " poop tester " saves the world and gets the girl.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

The hero principal saved his school from being poisoned. Hope he is okay.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Good thing it wasn’t in the natto.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Oh gods, how much fecal matter was mixed in for the principal to pick up on it?!!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Modern medicine is using dried excrement in capsules to cure things as varied as stomach disorders {unbalanced bowel/stomach biotics } through to depression.

Maybe this woman was just cutting out the middleman ?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Put her in the loony bin. And throw away the key. Absolutely disgusting and sick in the head woman who needs to be removed from society.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

No doubt he was investigating a strange odor and taste occurring in the past and was discreetly reported, in my opinion.

He probably wasn’t sniffing and snooping around for no reason.

How odd and disgusting! But angry crazy people do angry crazy things sometimes.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

This is criminal!

As stated by Virus, "this has serious repercussions". I recall in the early 90's an outbreak of E.coli in the U.S. West Coast that killed "4 CHILDREN" and sickened approximately 1000 people. I believe the cause in that case was due to negligence on the part of the food handlers and processing of beef patties, but since then inspections/recalls from the USDA were greatly improved. Unfortunately people died, this could have been devastating to this community! Good job Principal for putting your kids first!

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

It's a good thing that the principal had the moral courage to let everybody know about the problem, even though it was bound to be very unpopular. A lot of school principals probably would have just sucked it up.

I really hope it was her poop. Do you think other people could have been involved? Can you imagine the police questioning?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Ew

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Lock her up in doo doo!!

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

What a crappy thing to do

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

It's a good thing that the principal had the moral courage to let everybody know about the problem, even though it was bound to be very unpopular

Unpopular? Anyone who stops me from unwittingly eating poo in a lunch is always going to be super popular in my books.

The principal is a hero.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Just like prison the head or deputy head get served first. One of the kitchen staff takes a tray to the heads office. What I think probably happened is that the staff member had a problem with the head so put a spoonful of doodoos in his curry.

God help her future husband!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Another sick puppy

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Staff is denying it. People here are so quick to judge.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

My wife works in one of these facilities, while most facilities have super strict rule, such as "you can't go to the toilet while working, if you do, the procedure is pretty troublesome". Even then, she's been around many facilities that are quite loose about the quality of hygiene, just last month, they found bird poop in the rice.

The problem again stems from not having enough qualified people, which is pervasive in Japan. While she had to passed tests to get license to work in these facilities, part timers don't, and with their turn over rate, no one has the time to do on the job training about hygiene standard, while at the same time preparing lunches for hundreds of students daily.

Accidents or not in this Aichi case, the problem persists.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Unbelievable! I'll be more cautious with the company's canteen food. Don't know who's my enemy. LOL

It is a very dangerous act but she has denied it. There must be 3rd person playing this dirty game.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

so she pooped in the tofu? At least she gave it some flavor

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Maybe she thought it was mypoo dofu.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

What A Crap

So Pathetic.

principal didnt even know what he was eating.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

These school lunches are prepared elsewhere ( not on school premises) and delivered to the schools where staff serve it. It’s more than likely that the ‘ poo ‘ could have been added by anyone from the food preparing people, packers or delivery staff. It can also be the 20 year old that they are accusing. Just hope they have evidence rather than just looking for a scapegoat!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

So thankful that I ALWAYS had a sandwich made by my mother for lunch and NEVER a "school" lunch! Better a simple PBJ by Mom than... whatever!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Super popular

The principle is a hero

Yup- the super poopular principle hero.

What's for dessert ?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Seriously what is going on with people

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I always know it's Sora by the slightly goofy, slightly obnoxious, style.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The food is probably bland so she thought of adding a little bit of seasoning to improve the taste and make it absolutely delicious.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Should be punished severely so no other loonies commit copy-cat crime

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Students and their parents need to chip in and buy the principal a case of mouthwash and a few new toothbrushes.

Reminds me of the movie, "The Help" from several years ago.

OMG! Soo scary, good job principal.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Mypoodofu used to be my favorite dish!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Good job principal, who gave a 20 year old job in a school? I see 23 and above in most school.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Mypoodofu used to be my favorite dish!"

That is funny! It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "ugggh....who made this, it takes like sh*t!"

Seriously though, what was this woman thinking....disgusting, and glad the principal caught it before kids could have been ill from this.
