Air Self-Defense Force member arrested for trespassing into women's toilet at store

A 24-year-old member of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) was arrested on Wednesday for trespassing in a women's toilet at a store in Fuchu City, Tokyo. According to police, the suspect, who hasn't been named, was arrested for allegedly entering the women's toilet at the Don Quijote Fuchu store around 9:20 p.m. on March 7. A store employee found him and handed him over to police.

The suspect was quoted by police as saying, “I was drunk and feeling bad. I tried to use the men's toilet but it was full. I didn't see any harm in using the women's toilet.”

Police, however, said that the suspect seems to have peeped into the cubicles because a female customer heard suspicious sounds from inside a locked toilet, and later reported it to store staff.

Trying to slide by blaming it on the drink. I do not understand the turn-on in peeping in the toilet. Gross.

i hope they really have strong evidence, because if they start arresting people going in the other gender toilet, i am in trouble !! the ladies bathroom are always sooooo crowded, than in restaurant/hotels or small places (ok not department stores) i sometimes go to the mens bathrooms...

While peeping and otherwise harrassing people is obviously illegal, I'd be suprised if it was illegal for a man to simply enter a women's toilet. It's obviously perfectly legal for woman to enter a male toilet.

But these days, if a man even gets seated next to child on a plane he's considered to be 'harrassing' the child and is moved. One day, simply being male will be made illegal. The UK or Sweden will be first to enact that law!

I think the suspicious sounds the woman heard were that of a man breathing or gasping after vomiting or a bad alcohol number 2. The fact that the sounds were coming from a male is all it took. The police will try to get him to confess to peeping but it may not be the case. I hope he sticks to his guns and walks. I doubt he was peeping.

The drunk excuse is getting old, better would be, he saw a suspicious women go into the toilet and followed her just to be sure that she wasn't a threat to national security.

He was drunk. That makes it completely acceptable, no?

The act of peeping is now determined by hearing sounds???

Logic, where art thou?

You know, the sound of a man relieving himself sounds very similar to when your husband...and yeah, I lot of Japanese guys seem to be completely unable to do that without some auditory accompaniment, just like so many Japanese mutter "shimatta" when they screw up, and then suddenly realize they should have kept that error hidden. Its involuntary when you are Japanese.

A store employee found him and handed him over to police. Did he hand him over to police on the silver plate? What a joke. Again; “I was drunk and feeling bad. I tried to use the men’s toilet but it was full. I didn’t see any harm in using the women’s toilet.” What do you want him to do if the men's toilet was full? Should he discharge on the front of the shops? If he was drunks he wouldn't remember where toilets are, or looking for them because being drunk is like 'Road Runner or Speedy Gonzalez.' Have mercy of on him, and hand him over to judge who like. Was the employee a ‘Security Guard?’ If not does this place have security around?

[Police, however, said that the suspect seems to have peeped into the cubicles because a female customer heard suspicious sounds from inside a locked toilet, and later reported it to store staff.] I'm sorry but when you have to go you have to go. No harm. But really where does hearing a 'suspicious sound' which is what exactly? Him puking or groaning in pain or relief? means he was 'peeping'? Do women's toilets in Japan have holes drilled between cubicles? None I've been in and have had to use a few. What gets me is a one at a time toilet is designated male or female. A effin toilet is a toilet if you can only be in one at a time. Like at your home. Stalls are pretty private not like the North American sub-standard ones where you can hear the next person breathing. In Japan they are usually pretty individual. So I think this panicy woman is overreacting. I'll give this guy the benefit of the doubt.
