An American man employed at the hospital at the U.S. naval base at Yokosuka has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman on Wednesday night, police said Thursday.
According to police, the 22-year-old suspect approached the 26-year-old woman from behind on a street in Wakamatsu-cho at about 11:30 p.m., TBS reported. The woman told police he hugged her and put his left hand over her mouth. The woman said she broke free and fell to the ground, but suffered no injuries.
A passerby witnessed the incident and called police. The suspect was quoted by police as saying he was drunk and doesn't remember doing anything, TBS reported.

A drunk may not remember what he did, but he sure knows what he was doing while drunk. The fact that he hugged a woman and not a man proves it. You never hear of a dunk guy groping another guy do you?
nath
Most guys would be to embarrassed to report if they were.
ExportExpert
Drunk sailors are all over the place, some are absolute dicks and do real dumb stuff but most are normal and cause no problem.
MoBass4u
Is he military or civilian? Looks like someone is trying to fire up the anti military crowd.
tairitsuiken
MoBass4u,
As they rightly should.
paulinusa
He's a dumb and drunk young guy. Only news for obvious reasons.
MoBass4u
I'm not going there with you. If this individual is guilty then the law will do what they do.

The headline quite clearly states AMERICAN MILITARY MEMBER, can you not grasp that.
Yubaru
Maybe the headline does, but if you READ the article it also says;
Which could mean that they are a SOFA status civilian attached to the military as well. If you have been reading articles on JT for more than a couple of days you might come to realize that many of the "headlines" are attention grabbers.
ExportExpert
Yubaru yes and could also mean he is navy and works at the hospital, after all everyone in the military has to do something.
Other wise JT need to change the headline to read civillian employed by US military ...........
Yubaru
Geez dont you think I knew that from the headline?
CrazyJoe
According to the news, this man is a (衛生下士官) (eisei kashikan) , a corpsman (An enlisted person in the U.S. Navy who works in a hospital.)
MoBass4u
ExportExpert: Someone else noticed what I did. Maybe you didn't grasp it. It reeks of fire up the anti crowd.
MoBass4u
Thanks for the update CrazyJoe. I simply wanted to bring light to the way it is stated. Leaves one to wonder. I will say again that if he is guilty he will pay for his stupidity.
Wakarimasen
Close Yosokusa!!!!!!! Gi's out!!!!!! Okinawa too!!!!!

@MoBass4u
No problem.

To the east of the United States is the Atlantic Ocean, to the west of the United States is the Pacific Ocean. Bases in Europe and in Asia are needed for U.S security.

What the kid did was wrong, period. Drunk or not one person does not touch another without permission. He will have to face the music for what he did.
nath
She was unharmed and it doesnt seem like he really wanted to assault her or there would have been more violence i think.
I absolutely think he was wrong and he does deserve what he gets, but why is this such a big thing. I've seen drunk business men full on punch the junior employees in bars or izakayaz. I've seen seen drunk men grab women's butts in restaurants and on the street but that isn't in the news. Why is this situation so much worse than my examples.
Just seems a little overblown.
Yubaru
Must someone state the obvious? I guess so, because it's US Military.

Actually, back in college there was an entire floor of guys who became very homoerotic when drunk, and a single gay guy who became straighter than the others. Considering the story here though, what is more likely is that he mistook the person for someone he knew, and being drunk as he was, did something that would have been stupid to do even if it was a person he knew.

OK. That's it!
Time for the US military to leave.
This has gone on long enough.
Bye!

A 22-year-old squid, raging hormones fueled by booze does something dumb. Grounds for some form of discipline, a profuse apology to the woman, and restriction. But US military members are under the microscope of scrutiny as ambassadors, so like it or not are expected(unrealistically IMO) to have exemplary behavior.

Good luck kicking out all those drunk salarymen too. You're probably looking at a quarter million of them.
Thunderbird2
He did more than hug her, he put his hand over her mouth... clearly he had other plans, or why try to prevent her from screaming?
Basiroil... there was a witness, it was that person who called the police. So yes, he was seen doing it, so clearly guilty.

Was there a trial? NO, clearly he is accused of assault, he is NOT guilty (yet)

Shame this guy will never get fair treatment. We'll probably never know what actually happened.

That's one reason why US Military personnels and staffs should leave Okinawa... they don't like them there anymore. USA have given back Okinawa to Japan. Stay out of there and leave them alone. ;))
Phil Bennett
What are you talking about? This didn't happen in Okinawa. That was really left field.
