Anna Tsuchiya's husband arrested for assault, property damage

The husband of model-singer Anna Tsuchiya, 27, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting several people and damaging property while drunk, police said Saturday.

The man, 30-year-old stylist Yamato Kikuchi, is accused of kicking and breaking the reception counter at a karaoke parlor in Roppongi around 11 p.m. last Thursday.

According to an NTV report, when a 24-year-old employee attempted to intervene, Kikuchi assaulted him and grasped his throat. Police then arrived on the scene, at which point Kikuchi allegedly pulled an officer's uniform.

Kikuchi was quoted as telling police that he was drunk and doesn't remember anything, NTV reported.

I like "Checkmate" pretty much, that Battle Royale theme remix. Maybe her husband also wanted to rebel against the adult-dominated society after watching the movie, ha ha. Yeah, not funny :) But what else's there to say.

Anna Tsuchiya's husband arrested

The guy's name is Yamato Kikuchi.

Him being anyone's husband, is beside the point.

was quoted as telling police that he was drunk and doesn’t remember anything,

The standard excuse in Japan. Some things never change.

Alcohol is the best excuse here. Even that twit from SMAP is still on TV, more so than ever now.

Alcohol is a drug you know. It alters moods, perceptions, inhibitions and self-control just like all the rest. Its not an excuse. Its an explanation. And if you think it cannot be a valid explanation, then you must think alcohol is just a drink like orange juice. People should have a license to drink this drug, and his should be revoked.

Agree with Mr Bill, alcohol is a dangerous drug and should be banned. It leads to violence, accidents sometimes resulting in death and strange behaviours.

Drunks may not remember what they did, but they sure know what they're doing while drunk. It's like the hentai drunks who gropes a girl. You never hear of them groping a guy, do you?

Alchohol in the wrong hands can be as lethal as a loaded shotgun in the hands of a lunatic but prohibition does not work. They tried that in the US and it just fueled bootleggers to make a fortune inbetween murders, gang warfare and bribery. Best the judicial system can do is refrain from taking the excuse of intoxication as a defence and prosecute felons to the full extent of the law

Someone smarter than me should write a sociology thesis on how this Japanese catchphrase is indicative of the Japanese aversion to accepting responsibility.

GREAT JOB LETS DRINK MORE

It's a wonder he was arrested at all. Must have gone way beyond the out of control drunk behavior usually tolerated.

It's amazing that that gets classed as a defence in this feudal kharzi.

Bluewitch, why should you be ashamed of being born in Japan, you should not be, the police in this case made the arrest and hopefully his mitigating defence of intoxication will not go well for him. There are always some bad eggs in policeforces all over the world, but on the whole they do their duty. You should not hang down your head for the lack of integrity that a minority of citizens display

A totally meaningless and worthless excuse. The evidence of what he did is there and alcohol does not condone his actions, on the contrary, it aggravates his despicable behavior.

I don't understand why some people drink that much alcohol. Dumb.

Dear Christina,

I am because I have witness many cases where money and name play a big role... sometimes nationality as well. Not everyone in the Police of course but too many of their members are just plain rotten and corrupted!!! I wonder when the NPA will get out of their primitive ways and join the 21st. century.

To be clear Foxie, I said alcohol is a drug and that was all. It is dangerous though, about as dangerous as crossing the street, driving on the highway, or having knives in your kitchen, etc. I did not say it or anything should be banned. I said it should require a license to drink, and I am not talking about a driver's license, which, ironically, is the standard ID you show when purchasing alcohol. But anyway, banning it would be a dumb move as proven by history. Drugs are useful things, even the recreational kind. But regulation is also a useful to tool to prevent abuse.

Everyone should be tested for alcohol tolerance and get their alcohol consumption license if they want. But pull a stunt like Kikuchi did here, it should be revoked or suspended for a couple years. This one should not be drinking again for a while at least.

Mr Bill - how about people like my gf who have low tolerance for alcohol but drink a glass of wine every now and then responsibly?

Silly thesis topic. What, you never heard the old "too drunk to remember" line outside of Japan? One is to draw sociological insights into Japan based on this (universal) excuse?

ben4short:

Silly for someone not familiar with everyday life in Japan where this defense is not only given on an almost basis, but accepted on an almost daily basis.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

ABSOLUTELY nothing unique or peculiar to Japan about this "defense," hoserbuddy, except perhaps in the eyes of those looking for reasons to attack or bash Japan.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

not drunk enough not to remember he is drunk. To the slammer he goes.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

ben4short (ol' chap?) indeed, "I was drunk" IS a Japanese catchphrase anytime someone does something stupid while drunk. And more often than not, Japanese will see this as a legitimate excuse. If you have spent any amount of time in this country, you know what I'm talking about.

Yeah...lets bring prohibition back, because those were much more peaceful times. While we're at it lets ban cars and motorcycles too, because they are dangerous and also lead to accidents leading to death and strange behaviors.

If you want to work in a place like Roppongi doing late night shifts in such establishments, you better be physically fit and know decent hand to hand combat. It can help ya :)

Speaking as someone who all too recently has had too much to drink and regretted subsequent actions - not like the ones in this story though - I certainly do not consider being drunk to be a valid excuse and am feeling pretty foolish now.

This kind of BS happens all around the world Everyday of the week but this idiot happens to be married to this famous Japanese American singer so it gets on the news. Big deal so the guy is a jerk?? I feel sorry for Anna married to this looser!!!

How did the police get there so quickly? They are usually sleeping upstairs in their Kobans.

It came as a bit of a culture shock when I arrived in Japan to find that male make-up artists, stylists and hairdressers are often considered "hard-men" - capable of mayhem, wild brawls and generally macho behaviour. Back home it's usually the builders, brickies and rugby-league players!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

wow, a dangerous stylist - I'm scared !!!!!!! He's doing the Ebizo thing !!!!!!

JapanGal- the police wave a magical wan and a genie comes out of the koban, it works at disneyland.

Being drunk in Japan is only a valid excuse for stupid behavior if you're Japanese. I was sexually harrassed by a drunken co-worker at a very public office party and nearly lost my job for apparently not handling the situation properly. I was twice her size and considerably more sober so I didn't want to just push her away and end up with some kind of assault rap if she fell over a table or something, so I just said "no" repeatedly while eyeballing co-workers with one of those "help me" looks. The next day, everybody teased her about it and pretty much left it alone, but I was called in for a very serious meeting - and the whole incident dogged me for the rest of the time I worked there. They dangled it over me every time they wanted me to come in on a weekend or counter some complaint I had.

Sounds like he and Anna are perfect for each other! They both love to drink until they're so drunk they barely know what they are doing-- something Anna has said herself.
