Hardly, you probably are unaware but when politicians here get caught with bribery or money scandals, they take a hard fall, and some actually go to prison as well.

I'm confident he is not the only politician involved with "intergrated resorts" that is as filthy as its possible to be. They wear white gloves to hide the fact that the grim on their hands smears everything they touch.
Kobe White Bar Owner
As a member of Nippon Kaigi (The real leaders of Japan) it will be interesting to see how he is punished. Susp.......

Par for the course. Let's not forget the gambling business is a "dirty" business.

It's all theater....The casinos are coming as there is no economy in Japan anymore.

Of course it is a dirty business. Yakuza are rooted in gambling.

Another person arrested for attempting to bribe witnesses to perjure themselves is Akihito Awaji. Strangely, Mr. Awaji's name appears nowhere in this Kyodo article. One wonders why that could be. After all, Mr. Awaji is a prominent businessman with close ties to Akie Abe and her husband Shinzo.

Casinos are always almost a hotbed for corruption and crime. Especially when Chinese are involved. Good documentary on the “online” Casino boom and the crime that come with it in Cambodia on Aljazeera (East 101). Japan should just stop going ahead with this idiotic idea

Surely a clean, cheeky 10cm is easily come by.
Amateur snout at the trough.

There is a fine line between Government and Yakuza

Lets see how our Dear Teflon Leader gets away with any responsibility.

I'm shocked - shocked - to learn that an LDP politician would be involved in bribery, corruption, and sordid goings-on in the gambling industry.

ooohh Busted. Definitely caught with the hands in the cookie jar. Prison take a big towel to soak at the beach that is. Keep in mind white collar crime pays in any country. Japan being no different.

Like Kobe White Bar Owner as astutely said.......will be punished with a suspended sentence due to his Nippon Kaigi ties.

@ Spitfire
Not necessarily, people who have not been here so long may not know that an ex-Prime Minister and influential politician, Tanaka Kakuei, was sentenced to prison, it was only luck (?) that he died while his appeal was still going through.

Hello Kitty 321......
Nice post.
However, that was before the Nippon Kaigi took total dominance in Japan.
He will totally walk......a suspended sentence at best.

Bend over and take it Akimoto, you have brought shame unto the good name of the LDP.

You're mistaken there in relating it to race. Casino crooks are all as corrupt as the next criminal.

Fingerprints?
OUCH.
mmwkdw
I wonder if my fingerprints are on any bills currently held in Police Custody.

Why do Tokyo Prosecutors love piling up on "leaked" evidences on petty crimes especially when conviction is certain? Fame? Glory? They don't go after "real" criminals who actually caused harm to people just because it's difficult to get a conviction.
YeahRight
I know of quite a few politicians (here and abroad) who should be in prison, but none that actually go. Well, maybe a governor or two from Ohio ( Illinois ?), but I haven't heard of many, if any, here in Japan. This is, after all, the Land of the Suspended Sentences.
