Police in Tokyo said Thursday have arrested an Air Self-Defense Force officer for using his smartphone to film up the skirt of a woman on a train.

According to police, Yukifumi Fujita, 50, a major at an ASDF academy in Meguro Ward, used a smartphone camera inside a bag to film up the skirt of a woman in her 20s on a train on the JR Yamanote line between Shibuya and Ebisu stations at around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sankei Shimbun reported.

A male passenger saw what Fujita was doing and detained him, police said.

Police said Fujita, who lives in Saitama Prefecture, has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he was stressed out because he was currently going through a divorce.

Wow! What a complete idiot! Nice monthly paycheck, and career, gone? Maybe his superiors do the same thing though...?

Now that is stupid. You are stressed over getting a divorce so you go and film up women's skirts? With dumb ideas like that it is no wonder you are going through a divorce. So now you will be relived of your duties, divorced and have a criminal record. Dude, get a grip.

So you have to film up a girl's skirt to relieve your stress? Mate, have a beer!

Is it me or am I reading all these up skirt pictures and other similar crimes constantly coming from government people!?

I never understand this "a passenger has detained the man until the police arrived". How, I ask, would a man "detain" me should I be doing something illegal? I mean come on, the guy supposed to be a soldier, ostensibly trained in hand to hand combat and is a trained killer, as all soldiers are. How can a civilian "detain" him?

When I'm stressed, I play video games. Stress gone! Even during my divorce, I played video games to keep my mind calm. If doing what he did calms his stress level, I dunno what kinda stress he is dealing with!

There is a thing called the Internet. You don't have to do terrible things to innocent women in real life.

he was currently going through a divorce

Well that's hardly surprising is it.

Ah~~~c'mon now that isn't true.

Of course the major is a major disappointment but then again in Japan men in uniform often are.

news update...he was drunk and doesn't remember admitting his guilt.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

A divorce !??? He should celebrating his return to freedom instead of being stressed out.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Stress...well it was either that or "I was drunk and don't remember"

Maybe in the Consitutional revisions this will be deemed necessary to comfort the armed forces.... I mean, stress and all that seems to be a common excuse for despicable behaviour.

"Air Self-Defense Force MAJOR- officer for using his smartphone to film up the skirt of a woman on a train; R Yamanote line between Shibuya and Ebisu stations"

"stressed out because he was currently going through a divorce."

And he may ask himself What have I done? How did I get there? "I was drunk and don't remember" Same as it ever was...

As always, amazed at this crime. What on earth is the point of "filming up a woman's skirt"?????

4 ( +5 / -1 )

The J-police then confiscated his phone for "research purposes"

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Sheesh... when it's not the J-cops it's the SDF. I'm just surprised it wasn't an SDF officer in charge of eliminating sexual harrassment or discrimination.

It's not just about seeing a little piece of cloth. It's the excitement of seeing what you are not supposed to be seeing, discovering the style and color of it, how it wraps around her body, and seeing the curves of her body that it doesn't cover up.

Exactly. If he's going through a divorce, he was some freedom. He could've asked her out for some coffee, get to know her appropriately and then go from there.

Well, i think it's time for women to fight back and humiliate us men in a similar way: fight fire with fire! That will teach us a lesson.

Crotch staring and/or filming on public transport has to be your weapon of choice; yep that would make us feel very uncomfortable and turn all chikans/potential chikans into gentlemen in weeks! Sure that would hurt us but you gotta do what you gotta do! Give us a taste of our own medicine, we deserve it :(

Oh please don't do it!!!

Hope he has no children. Because, if he has any children, they would experience a feeling of shame.

Maybe... or, government people crimes are just more newsworthy than regular people crimes.

So Major, was she worth it?

Why is it that these sex offenders always think that pleading stress or being drunk is some kind of acceptable explanation for their criminal acts?

It's an explanation - 'acceptable' has nothing to do with it. If you start defining acceptability of explanations, then you force people to lie about what happened instead of the truth, when the explanation of what happened is not 'acceptable'.

...and Abe wants these people to have offensive capabilities....unless this is it.

This article as with other articles with the same or similar content has introduced several other issues which is often ignored. This issue is very similar and related to "sexual harassment", "social culture" and "family / personal relationship" problems and issues that exist in Japan and many other nations throughout the world.

Just to introduce a new thought, I leave you with the following question.

To begin with, there is one obvious question.

When there is open bathrooms/toilets visible from the street at almost every corner, when there are open outdoor "onsen" bathrooms often visible from a distance, when there are public "onsen" that has both sexes in the same bath, where female attendants come in to male "onsen" or public bathrooms to clean, and many more such situations where sometimes pictures are taken by both sexes, why is this particular action a "crime"?
