Ooooh... Kinki.

So the law is out of step with what people do...no violence no theft, just a stupid law that makes criminals out of citizens that really did nothing. Who ever called the police has a mental issue.

Bit of an over reaction!!

The whole team gets suspended over that.

Japan has some bizarre sporting customs.

If a team stopped playing everytime their players misbehave the England football team would never play again.

(As seen on the news this morning) Is it necessary for the university to apologize on national television for these five? I assume all are 20 years of age or over, so shouldn't they be apologizing if any had to be done? Or maybe they should be apologizing to the university for tarnishing its reputation?

4 ( +10 / -6 )

bought cannabis for between 7,000 yen and 8,000 yen per gram from a dealer

The real crime is those prices.

23 ( +25 / -2 )

No one should need to apologize to anyone for canabis! It should be legalized!

Even the decisions handed down by the courts here, in similar cases involving canabis use, have been all over the proverbial map, from rather lengthily prison terms, to slaps on the hand. Oh and also depending upon if the "user" was a celebrity, or a thug!

If the courts can't get right, the government needs to step up and create the laws to legalize it!

Wont happen with all the old-fogies in the LDP, who wear their panties so tight, it's cut off all blood flow to their brains! But it should!

Cannabis should not be legalized because unrestricted use of the substance could lead users to heavier and more serious drugs such as cocaine.

The university on Thursday ordered the soccer club, founded in 1972, to suspend its all activities indefinitely.

Ridiculous.

bought cannabis for between 7,000 yen and 8,000 yen per gram

Even more ridiculous. If you paid 2000 yen abroad you would feel hard done by.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Gatway, seriously unrestricted? Like Tabasco sauce leads to leads to chilies? Or Tobacco leads to cigars? Alcholholic beverages lead to unplanned pregnancy. Never in my wildest dreams have I thought mmmm I should level up to cocaine, mmm heroine now that's a great lifestyle choice. And anyway it's my choice I'm an adult really don't need a government to make rules for my choices.

13 ( +16 / -3 )

The coach was a grass. Pun intended.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Unfortunately in Japan Cannabis is the same as heroin. Complete ignorance. Also, wasted air time on TV over someone getting busted on possession, a victimless crime.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

As usual sadly dumb just keeps getting dumber!!

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Oh & by this """""""logic""""""" then the Olympics should be cancelled!!

Cant allow the games to be a thing if some athlete tried some MJ..........

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Why are they investigating 33,000 people over what 5 people claim to have done? How are they going to investigate? Ask all 33,000 if they've smoked the devil's weed? Via Zoom? Send them a questionnaire via fax?

Is there a precedent that every time some Kindai student does something illegal, the school investigates all the other students?

12 ( +12 / -0 )

Funny. Like ~ this is newsworthy.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Devils Lettuce sends stupid people into tail spin, the stupid people keep it illegal and the head of the soccer club suspends the whole soccer club ...........................................

Wake Up And Make Natures Medicine L E G A L !

4 ( +4 / -0 )

So old men who couldn't even plan their own retirement with a grossly (tax payer funded) huge salery need to tell others what choices are OK, I would say as a tax payer YOU are wrong. Leave these people alone. YOU are wrong. Make the right choice Retire. Not my thing but if anyone needs to get high it's these drunks.

The university in Osaka Prefecture said it will set up a team to investigate all of its roughly 33,000 students over illegal drug use.

Will they all get tested?

Should it be cases of Covid, only a few would be investigated instead.

Anyway... just let kids be kids!

its legal almost everywhere but here. who cares?

Is it legal for a school to investigate its entire student body? The police should investigate the school.

Well, there's around 220,000 police in Japan, most of whom have nothing to do. Perhaps one underemployed copper could be assigned to investigate one student each, and then all 33,000 police could investigate the university afterwards.

It would occupy the police's time and hopefully prevent them from leaving their guns in conbini toilets.

Legalize it

Don't criticize it

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Bar fights from drinking alcohol as to canbis bar every one friendly.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Put all the 33000 students in prison for one week. The ones that confess should be kept inside for 2.5 years. The rest of the students can get a lesson in life that drugs are illegal.

Captain Obvious:

I assume all are 20 years of age or over, so shouldn't they be apologizing if any had to be done?

Never assume ANYTHING.

Reefer Madness.

Newsworthy for the stupidity of the law, police and university.

Investigate 33,000 students without probable cause?? I would tell them to take a hike.

Once again, the Japanese love of snitching comes to the fore. Never tell any Japanese person anything that could get you in trouble with the authorities, none of them can be trusted to keep a secret.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

I get both sides of the issue but as it relates to Japan...

What benefit would society get from introducing another drug? I mean there is no big demand for it. Alcohol is already the legal drug of choice here. I have not met one Japanese person who laments not being allowed to use pot in Japan. Taxing it would bring in peanuts so there is no financial motive. Smoking in Japan is down and frowned upon in public. Organized crime would not be snuffed out by legalizing it.

Medicinal legalization may make sense since there are situations where it helps patience deal with pain.

I think respecting and following the strict rules put in place in school, work, and society help keep Japan a civil country.

What am I missing?

No they won't.

And if they did, talk about a complete waste of time and resources.

from a dealer he contacted via Twitter

good move.

and used it on the street

It's good to publicize things.

The university on Thursday ordered the soccer club, founded in 1972, to suspend its all activities indefinitely.

I'm sure its dozen fans are heartbroken.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yes, completely clean up that drug hell, wipe them all away and then matriculate 33,000 new but clean students.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

This is silly. As usual, Japan cracks down on the trivial while completely ignoring the bigger issues.

The club's opponents should be cheering Kindai on, with all those stoned players wandering around in slow motion on the field making it a breeze to thrash them in a game.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Newsflash !!

College students found smoking weed !!

5 ( +5 / -0 )

At high school a friend told me had bought some hash, and he had smoked it with another friend downtown in some vacant house. Wow. Well, at the time I was UK the equivalent of President of the Student Council, but I did not say anything to anyone; just filed it away as an interesting development. And that was in 1969, only about fifty years ago. Japan has not reached that point yet, I guess.

University students smoking pot? It’s the apocalypse! Stop the world!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

During a club meeting the following day, the five admitted to using cannabis...

Doh!!! Rule one of pot club, don't talk about pot club. Never admit it, you dummies!

One of the five, who is in his third academic year, bought cannabis for between 7,000 yen and 8,000 yen per gram

This should've been the headline of this story. Per gram??!!! OMG!

Cannabis should not be legalized because unrestricted use of the substance could lead users to heavier and more serious drugs such as cocaine.

And drinking too much milk could cause me to what eat a cow next?

That's just as ludicrous a statement as yours here.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Oh no!

anyway...

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

My less-than-warm feelings for pot are well known (I think), so I won't repeat them.

If a team stopped playing everytime their players misbehave the England football team would never play again.

Well, it's the standard argument for collective responsibility - it gives an incentive for others to keep you in line and also hopes that the fact others will die along with you will give you an incentive to behave properly.

the Japanese love of snitching comes to the fore.

Whether it is Japanese aside, you have to make a choice. Do you want people to report crimes? If yes then you have to accept snitching. If you don't want any snitching then you are arguing people should conceal crimes due to group loyalty.

This is overly simplistic a view. It's not like they are covering up a murder! There are no victims in this so-called crime, and you can't make the assumption that all "snitching" is the same!

Who or if anyone actually "snitched" on these evil culprits here, really needs to take a hit of what they were smoking and chill the frick out!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The snitch needs to be identified. I hate snitches.
