Baby with umbilical cord attached found in convenience store toilet

A newborn baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached was found abandoned in a convenience store toilet in Niiza, Saitama Prefecture, on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, a male customer found the infant in the toilet basin in a 7-Eleven store at around 1 p.m., Fuji TV reported. The child, still alive, was taken to hospital where she is in a stable condition, police said Friday

Police believe the baby’s mother gave birth to her in the toilet. Surveillance camera footage showed a woman going into the toilet where she remained for about 30 minutes.

Surveillance camera footage showed a woman going into the toilet where she remained for about 30 minutes.

So what's going to happen next? Will she be arrested? Will the child be returned to her? (because she left behind something very important and it was found) I have a feeling that this innocent baby will be thrown into the child adoption facilities and left there. So sad.

Agree with Wakarimasen ( 2nd time )

This is a case of someone that surely did not want the baby, why not give birth and give the baby up for adoption it would be the decent thing to do. Leaving you new born baby girl in the toilet makes you a animal. Even a dog has more love for their new born. Hope they find the mother so she can explain why she did what she did.

I'm just glad the baby survived.

She should go to prison, what an evil person ! 9 months in your womb and if you didn't take an abortion, you had plans to keep the child. And how does one deliver a baby in the toilet and not be screaming and kicking the door, is she a doctor by trade? How is it ultra silent to deliver a child is what I'm wondering...

The extremity of the situation suggests that the mother is mentally ill. She left the child in a place where it would be found quickly, which was a blessing. I hope the other facts can be ascertained, the baby be placed in a kind and supportive home, and if the mother is found, I hope she can get the help, aid, and assistance she needs to prevent this from happening again.

oh thank god the baby is alive and in stable condition!

I hope the police find the mother and figure out what the hell she was thinking!

@texpudlian

And how was it for your mother? ; )

Childbirth doesn't always require moaning and screaming.... That's the movies innit? My experience was a brief bit of discomfort followed by a baby splashdown into the birthing pool.

30 min!? Wow, did the staff not hear the moaning and screaming etc that goes with child birth? After seeing child birth firsthand, its hard to even imagine this possible but, I guess anything is possible.

They may have thought she was constipated and wanted some privacy.

Oh man, this was really close to my old house. This is terrible. Thank god the baby survived.

Hopefully she is caught soon and made answer to her crime.

I think that the mother needs medical help first. there is probably a lot of reasons why she did what she did, lets not condemn her just yet.if she is traced and she still does not want anything to do with the baby, I hope a willing and able foster or adoption family is found.

What breaks my heart about these stories is it doesn't often seem the mother cares anything for the baby's life. Carried to term, born alive, but then dumped or hidden like so much trash, in a place/situation where it doesn't seem the mother cared a fig whether anyone found the baby in time to save its life or care for it. Can "baby hatches" fix this kind of mentality?

When a pet owner leaves their dog in a vehicle, the owner is labeled a monster.

When a mother leaves a newborn baby in a convenience store toilet, she receives sympathy:

'poor mother' , 'maybe some post depression', 'family troubles', 'where's the father!'

???

Glad the baby is alive, may she have a long life.

The mother deserves prison time.

Poor child and poor mother.  Imagine giving birth in a conbini toilet.  In 30 minutes.  and then having to abandon the poor baby due to, I guess, impossible family or other circumstances.

Thankfully the baby is still alive. I’m quite sure this woman will be identified very quickly.
