Bodies of two infants found in supermarket freezer

The bodies of two infants were discovered inside a big freezer at a supermarket in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, on Saturday night, police said Sunday. Police believe the two bodies to be that of a boy and a girl who were born healthy, not stillbirths.

The bodies were discovered inside a shopping cart left inside the supermarket freezer. The bodies were in two individual bags and each was frozen. According to an autopsy, neither child was stillborn, and one child was a young girl while the other was a newborn boy.

It's unclear when the children died or how the cart got into the freezer, and police believe the bodies had been frozen for about two days after death. Police are currently checking security camera tapes in the area to look for any clues.

What the heck is wrong with people?

There are no words to describe this...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

savage.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Thhe whole country went down the sewer when they started killing their own children. But then again, what can you expect from a society that treats dogs better than children? A society where killing your own child means nothing but a suspended sentence and an apology. A G-7 society that does not have child welfare protection laws. What else can you expect from this draconian-outdated feudal society where life seems to be cheap. This is so depressing!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I just finished reading about the parents who sealed their 2 year old in a trash can, now to see this report. One begs the question, where are the child welfare workers?

In this case, how did someone do this without being noticed? I would suspect an employee at the supermarket...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sad and horrible beyond words. I can only hope these poor babies are in a better place. Too many unwanted pregnancies and abortions here. Something has got to be done, really...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes this happens in other countries and it's just as SICK!! but japan is a weekly event. I hope your murderer rots in hell, after a long unhealthy and very interesting life. RIP little ones. My tears are falling for you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not again. RIP little ones, this kind of news is heartbreaking.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There are no words to describe this...

well it appears no words to describe this that are acceptable on this site. just go with Truly sad. Seems like something that would happen in an X-files episode.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Messed up, Japan sure has its quota of crazies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This report is the typical vague and lacking in facts report. All we know is that the babies were not still born and they had been in a freezer for 2 days. What we don't know is, How old are they, days, weeks, ??? How did they die? no cause of death has been reported?

I can imagine a distraught mother, having given brith to 2 beautiful babies, got home from the hospital and a few days later to find them dead in their crib, from natural causes. And this mother, out of her mind, placing them in the freezer. As one possible scenario.

To think of the worst scenario, just makes me sick to my stomach, where the babies were alive when they were put in the freezer.

So we don't have enough facts to presume to know what really happened. Lets wait to see if the tabloid reporter who posted this can put together some more facts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

WoW !!!! I have never heard of a story like this before. It has to be a store employee or a friend of an store employee. Two or three people have to be involved in this crime. The mother couldn't have done this alone. Imagine walking into a huge warehouse and finding to frozen kids next to chocolate ice cream. Creepy!!! I would never shop at that store again.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

RIP the babies. This shouldn't have any where in the world. especially NOT JAPAN. This kind of news is just horrific. i don't give a crap about what state the mother was in. She must burn in hell.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Geeezzzzz! It just doesn't stop, does it. So sad.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

All you need to do in Japan now is cut and paste the comments to a new sicker case. Done.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

does Aichi need a baby hatch too? might have spared the lives of these babies....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

i don't give a crap about what state the mother was in. She must burn in hell.

Assuming the mother is the one who did it, of course ...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Find the people who were responsible for this and expose the whole incident on all channels of tv. Stop showing the supermarket and the freezer, and show the faces of the people who did this. If not, the people will never stop. Don't give excuses like the people were mentally ill and they coul not afford etc. Let the others who are dressing up dogs and cats undrstand that they can contribute tothe society. Enough of the nonsense about each one solving their own problem and families responsible for their own problem. If each one is allowed to solve their problem, this is the way they will solve the problem. It is a social responsibilty. How else can you insult yourself, throwing the bodies in a supermarket freezer; your own flesh and blood? So how many people had to eat the food from the contaminated freezer? Yes, maybe educate everyone about sex from the beginning, and tell the women what help is available when they are victims of rape and unwanted pregnancies. Honestly, I cannot help to think that this is just people playing games.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh dear...this world is so so so sick!! How could anyone do this?? Sorry i forgot which country i was in for a second!!!! I hope they find the person(s) responsible and flog them into unconsciousness every single day for the rest of their lives. Their is no excuse whatsoever for this.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

you would think with the aging population problem = pension shrinking problem that Japan would want to protect every child in the country.

How? Start with real penalties for crimes to yuor own children instead of this "as long as you keep it in the family" attitude.

The person who let these kids die and left them for waste like frozen gyoza is an animal.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

AzabuSamurai: Umm....well lets see. you are right but it seems to happen every single day in this country and they seem to invent new ways of doing it. Oh and its nearly summer!!! I wonder what the pachinko car park deaths will be....sick society who take more care of their cats than their children.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am not an expert on the topic but know that its not unique to Japan. These crimes stand-out more in Japan because possibly of the safe surface appearance.

A quick search resulted this info about the US:

The U.S. Department of Justice reports

797,500 children (younger than 18) were reported missing in a one-year period of time studied resulting in an average of 2,185 children being reported missing each day. 203,900 children were the victims of family abductions. 58,200 children were the victims of non-family abductions. 115 children were the victims of "stereotypical" kidnapping. (These crimes involve someone the child does not know or someone of slight acquaintance, who holds the child overnight, transports the child 50 miles or more, kills the child, demands ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently.)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

ratpack is right, although crimes against children are not exclusive to Japan, it seems like this country does have a problem preventing murders of children by their parents and careless supervision of kids playing in water (or strange dogs?!).

The crimes here seem very cowardice, like leaving bodies for someone to find, abuse by the father as the mother watches and other...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

when i read this, i had tears in my eyes. very very sad.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Even if they find the mother or the parents they wont be charged, they'll say they have no money or no way to care for it and it will all go away. In fact we'll never hear anything more of it after this.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

One child a newborn boy, one child a young girl. If they came from the same mom, then the girl was at least nine months old.

They'd been frozen for two days, and they aren't sure how they died. I hope mom didn't just have a change of heart, and shove two kids into the freezer, where they sat for two days before anybody noticed them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

These "burn in hell", "flog them into unconsciousness"(!) and "i don't give a crap" about her mental state comments are uninformed. Its well known that the balance of mind can be significantly disturbed in such cases. There are infanticide laws going back almost a hundred years to deal specifically with this (where the mother is responsible within 12 months of birth) in some countries.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

ahocchau -- right on. And, unfortunately, both problems are the result of this silly concept of protecting everyone's "privacy". Personal liberties, like privacy, often have to be compromised for the good of the society, particularly its most vulnerable members, like children. Why can't Japan see this?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bamboohat - according to a Japanese article I've read, it says that the both babies were approximately 30cm tall.. so they were both newborn babies.

for WHATEVER reasons the mother had(I am just assuming it was probably the mother who did this to these babies...), this is not acceptable.. I hope she will be found very soon and be punished. Even if the babies were born dead, still this isn't acceptable.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

JT -- this should be in the crime section as this definitely IS a crime...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Words cannot express my feelings and the anger at the mother (and father). Presumably the mother wanted to avoid the shame of friends and family finding out about an unwanted pregancy. With the shortage of births in this country and the number of people around the world waiting to adopt, it would have been easy to find a home for these poor souls.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wish I could put that criminal in a plastic bag and beat the crap out of him or her and put that garbage in a freezer alive.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

but it seems to happen every single day in this country

That's 'cos it's reported. Not so much in US or any other country for that matter.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Poor poor babies, this is just sooo sad. I feel sick.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Laptop7 "I wish I could put that criminal in a plastic bag and beat the crap out of him or her and put that garbage in a freezer alive." This will make you as a criminal.

There is no proof it is a crime yet. It might be that the two children died and the mother being poor could not afford a proper burial, or the fact that the family lives illegally and so in Japan.....

But indeed it is very sad to hear everyday children dying that way.

may they rest in Peace

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Need... more... details...

This doesn't make sense. Unwanted pregnancies usually involve ONE baby, no? Since there are TWO babies in this case, the mother is either dumber than we think (because she had TWO unwanted pregnancies in a row), or there was another reason other than unwanted pregnancy... or it wasn't the mother that did this?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Presumably the mother wanted to avoid the shame of friends and family finding out about an unwanted pregancy

What the hell makes you presume that? There were two children found - of different ages.

Some of the people posting here should search for information using keywords such as: postpartum depression maternal infanticide.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I love the posts by those of you feigning surprise at how this could happen in "safety" Japan.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I love the posters here trying to justify the reasoning as to why someone does this?? Does it matter why?? Are we supposed to feel sorry for the animal who disposes of babies like gutter trash just because their hormones are acting up?? Too bad you dont feel for the kids who died who knows what sort of death!! The person responsible for whatever reason can burn in hell for disposing of these 2 in a freezer.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Its well known that the balance of mind can be significantly disturbed in such cases.

Gees! Do you think so? I thought it was just normal for people to dump their kids in a freezer. And, I thought stating the blatantly obvious was specifically a Japanese trait. I also love all the speculation as to the causes and justifications of thi sickening act. There is no juatification at all nd blame lies solely with the loon that left the kids in the freezer.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Any excuse what-so-ever is bullshit! The person or crazy ass that did this should face murder charges! These incidences are one too many. Every week, or every other day - something like this happens here. Why?!!! Re-think the laws and get tough on punishment! Tie the fool by the ankles and drag the idiot from the back of a car - in front of the town folk. That would hopefully make them donkies think twice about victimizing children.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As a parent I can never understand such things. It takes so much effort to protect kids just to turn around and harm them...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, details are really sketchy. Maybe this came from two moms who found each other and came up with a plan, or some deadbeat dad or got two women pregnant and tossed out his kids. Who knows, needs lots of investigation.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This brought tears to my eyes. I have no more words.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There is no mention of how badly the employees of the store were FREAKED-OUT by this, just think of the nightmares the employees have who found these kids! My heart goes out to the the little ones and the store employees.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good point OgieDoggie! I can just imagine how I would feel finding two children in a freezer like that. My heart and prayers go out to them too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The kids were murdered, then frozen. No excuse for the one or one's that did this. It is just plain evil. Period!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Just sick. And AGAIN in less than a week we read of babies abandoned and dying... and in a supermarket FREEZER?! Japan is getting sicker and sicker.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I thought I've seen it all here... This is so sick! Throwing 2 kids in a freezer like a piece of meat. That's just over the top man...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

May be the monster put them to freeze to death. We do not jump to conclusions, but the culprit is probably from the inside. How can a customer have access to the supermarket freezer? We will wait and see. Very sad for the terrible death of the two angels...

I thought I've seen it all here... This is so sick! Throwing 2 kids in a freezer like a piece of meat. That's just over the top man...

It's a nightmare, huh...I thought I've seen it all too. How heartbreaking. What a disgrace that these two little angels had to die in such a horrible way. There won't be no justice, perhaps another suspended sentence and a gomen letter as usual. Disgusting!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's awful, but I'm curious... if they babies were alive when put into the freezer, the mother can't be charged for abandoning a corpse, right?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So disturbing and sick! I hope they find whoever did this...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I read that both babies still had umbilical cords and the boy was probably a premature baby, they died shortly after birth BEFORE being put in the freezer...

I'm curious, though.. if both babies came from one mother or two. I hope JT will report updated information as many of us want to know more.

I remember the precious moment of holding newborns when mines were born, and can hardly imagine how any mother could ever do this, even if the babies were born dead and I had no money, throwing them in a freezer would never come up on my mind.

For whatever reasons the mother(s) had, there should not be any excuse for doing this.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

it's a womans right before birth to 'terminate' her children in most industrialized countries, why is everybody so freaked out just because these suddenly frozen and abandoned little ones became babies instead of embyros after birth?its a brave new world right? we will see nothing but more of this the more life is continued to be legally marginalized.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I loathe stories like this... if you don't want a child then don't leave them to die. In the very least give them to someone else who cares for them...

Thhe whole country went down the sewer when they started killing their own children. But then again, what can you expect from a society that treats dogs better than children?

I'd like for you to say that to my wife... wow! Unbelievably belligerent comment! When did we "start killing our own children"??? I missed that meeting!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Anyone fancy compiling a spreadsheet of all the dodgy kiddy crimes that go on here to expose how bad it really is?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nemoflow, if you do that you ought really to compile one for your own country alongside it. JT has all the info you could possibly need about people killing Japanese kiddies, but you might need to look hard for info about your own country as it's so common it barely makes the headlines. Maybe if you can find a Japanese language news site along the lines of JT, which publishes all the nastiest and most outrageous information about your home country, then you might have an easier job. But most countries wouldn't put up with a bunch of foreigners making racist and offensive comments online, Japan is the only exception that I know of. (My own home country is awful too, regularly there are headlines that the mother or father is being investigated after a body of a child was found etc, and then afterwards there's usually a headline saying that they've been charged. This is at least as common in my home country as it is here, and there are less people back home unless I'm very much mistaken. UK.)

But what a horrific thing for some poor member of staff to find, and of course it's hard to imagine what the hell the culprit was thinking of, even if they weren't the parent, even if they were already dead when they were put in the freezer, after all they'd have made a noise if they were alive and alert so someone might have found them and rescued them. The people on this planet disgust me sometimes. I'm ashamed to be human.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

why would someone choose a supermarket freezer? The mind at work is very ill.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tahoochi wrote: I'd like for you to say that to my wife... wow! Unbelievably belligerent comment! When did we "start killing our own children"??? I missed that meeting!

Tahoochi, no need to tell her as my own husband is japanese as well. We have children together and we both agree that these child-deaths are getting extremely out of hand! Of course I have awful things happening back home, but DAMN..to leave 2 babies to freeze to death inside a supermarket freezer?! And I thought I've seen it all. I want whoever this did to pay and be thrown in prison permanently and I think most of us would agree on that, but unfortunately we also know that these "monsters" walk away with a suspended sentence and a gomen letter most of the time. 11 years for burying alive a 2-year-old inside a garbage bin?! Dear God!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Pretty messed up but still pretty insignificant. You here about these things about once a week. In a country of 130 million people, probably pretty low even for a G7 nation. In my experience Japan and the Japanese really value children. Every one in the neighborhood sort of watches over them (and I live in the middle of a bunch of housing projects in a big city, even better in the country side). To say that Japan is messed up because of a few abuse cases you read about on JT is wrong. Japan is messed up for a bunch of other reasons...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There should be a massive mobilization of police to find the monsters who did this.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

jump to conclusions much? I missed the part of the story that states "the parents left them there and they froze to death."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sarge: "There should be a massive mobilization of police to find the monsters who did this."

I'm not sure what mobilizing a massive force would do until they have an idea of whom it is who did it. What are hundreds are people going to look for when they have no leads or ideas? Figure out who did it, THEN mobilize the people to find them. That's not ultimately going to solve the problem of heaps of Japanese killing their babies recently. Get more baby hatches, EVERYWHERE, for starters, just in case. Then start working on trying to get the culture to realize the value of such a precious little human life.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

To Simplelife: mother could not afford a burial or maybe living in Japan illegally?? Give me a break. If that person couldn't afford a burial it might have been better to leave them at a temple or shrine but not in the freezer. You must be very naive to think that way! I'd still beat the crap out of that person no matter what their excuse may be.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't have anything to say. I can't comprehend someone taking a pregnancy to term, only to toss the babies in a freezer at the first opportunity. It is simply unfathomable to me how the mother rationalized this so I have no illuminating comments.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And Simplelife: The two children were born healthy, one older than another which makes me think that they didn't die of natural cause. No excuses.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

To kill a newborn for any reason is reprehensible.

There also is a vibrant global market for adoption.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

OK, this is just warped on so many levels.

There are more than a few moms who have snapped for a variety of reasons and killed their kids. The whole thing is tragic. Pity the people didn't get help.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If people dont want to have babies, they should either get medical treatment "pipe cut" the Japanese call ity, or else take precautions. Just because someone got themselves pregnant is no excuse to murder babies, either before or after birth.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Absolute solution is to use the rubber! Heck, take the pill beforehand too. There should be no reason to have an unwanted child. In the cases it does happen, drop the child off in the front door of authorities. They have no choice. It's a better decision.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not even animals kill their own babies ... no comments. Just ask for justice, hunt, arrest and keep those dudes in life prison.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Things like this still cease to amaze me. I mean how can any decent "human" do things like this. If they didn't want kids in the first place they should have thought about that before they opened their legs, or at least give it up for adoption and let someone who can't have kids, have children.

Great post as always, Smithinjapan. Exactly what I meant on MY previous posts..nothing to do with racism or racial discrimination as some NEW poster(iLoveNippon)tried to emphatized. Coming from a J-Family myself, I find it hard to be rascist and discriminatory, LOL. But just because they are japanese, doesn't mean that the monster-criminals that do this will get away with these atrocities against children and unbelievable sentences they get handed down. The truth will set you free.

"spahnmatthew at 01:29 AM JST - 23rd February To kill a newborn for any reason is reprehensible. There also is a vibrant global market for adoption. "

I completely agree with you but how many Japanese kids have been adopted? Japan makes it impossible for a none Japanese to adopt a Japanese baby! That is why these idiotic young parents resort to killing their children because they usually get a slap on the wrist.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

takarachan, the problem is that the so-called "parents" that do this kind of atrocity..rather kill their children than giving them in adoption. In j-culture, adoption is not an option in the great majority of cases, their name and privacy would be tarnished in the all-mighty koseki tohon for life. Privacy and Family name is everything, if someone knows otherwise, please feel free to contribute(respectfully) to this discussion staying on topic if possible.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is just 100 percent evil...no other word for it...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The fact of the matter is that we will keep reading stories like this over and over. It hurts me but the truth shall not be sugarcoated just because I have a japanese family. This country is outdated, draconian and extremely cold towards atrocities like this. The ol' traditional japanese mindset of SHOGANAI is sending this country down the sewer, down the gutter. Time to join the 21st century and get rid of 200 year-old useless laws that don't help anybody, Time to pass and enforce STRICT laws to protect the welfare of CHILDREN, Time to send Child Murderers to rot in prison instead just giving them a slap in the wrist and send them home as the J-police usually do.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I feel terribly sorry for the poor person who found these babies. Not something you could ever erase from your memory I would imagine.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

LOL @ 7 year sentence! What a joke! The J-judicial system is a bloody mockery. I feel for that little girl and I hope she is resting in peace with little angels by her side. Don't worry about those 3 months, it was worth it. I would have done it too. That piece of garbage isn't only coming out but he's living-proof that killing your own children in this country ain't nothing serious as killing someone else's. He'll be back in the pachinko like the loser he is and hopefully he'll spend the rest of his days haunted with the image of his own little girl dying.

Just because someone got themselves pregnant

I'm pretty sure it's darn near impossible to "get yourself pregnant."

Women in Japan are still wary of the pill and men refuse to use condoms (and which is easier--let's be honest here). Adoption is almost unheard of, abortion is extremely expensive, and on top of it all, too many Japanese people think they can't get STDs.

Sex ed around the world needs some improvement, but Japan needs it pretty desperately if they want to avoid cases like this, which often happen out of desperation and ignorance rather than malice.

(Lesson One should be: You can't get yourself pregnant.)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am a part of this society that kyokosmile allegedly insulted too, but I have to admit she is right - where is the outrage that would follow a story like this somewhere like the UK? I dont see it carrying a prime-time spot in the news, or commentators getting together to lament the state of "broken Japan". Its just move on, business as usual...and then it happens again. And again. And again. Im not saying the UK is any better than Japan - its not. But I can`t understand the lack of reaction by society to these kinds of stories.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

monkeyz: You said it! Young people need to learn the facts about contraception and use it! I think I also heard that teen pregnancies are increasing.

Kyokosmile: You are so right about the koseki. It makes adopting a child not very attractive and it also forces women to either abort the baby or get rid of it when it is born rather than face the shame. Very sad state of affairs indeed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There also is a vibrant global market for adoption.

For everyone saying things about how adoption would have been the answer, just know that adoption laws in Japan are ridiculously strict; at any time, if they decide to, relatives of the child (no matter how distant) can take the child back.

I think a big part of this problem is that there is little to no sex education of kids in school. Kids don't understand that they could get STDs or get pregnant through sex because nobody tells them about the dangers. It's all pretty 'taboo'.

Regardless, this is a very sad story. I hope some answers come up soon and that whoever did this can get the psychological help they so obviously need.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tahoochi, Don't take posts too personal. Remember, We are here expressing our opinions and points of view, I'm NOT here to post against other posters and attack people personally. So please, Do not take things personal. We are all entitled to have a different opinion.

kira, dolphin..with all these horrendous stories coming out I can't stop thinking what would I do if one of them involved my missing little boy..I can't imagine something as horrible and atrocious happening to him. After all, who knows? Stress and depression are taking over "some" people and turning them into monsters for what I can see. I pray that every little child goes to bed safety tonight. I pray and hope that we don't have to see stories like this again.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@gogogo Unfortunately gogogo the state of safety for children all over the world is in dire straits. Sad is the only word I can come up with for this and it too seems to be too small to encompass this tragedy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Stories like this used to give me the chills.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A horrible tragedy, but, wow, the details of this story have gone a little askew, in the original JT story and especially in these comments. It's like a bad game of telephone.

The local news (in Okazaki) is that they were found near the front of the market, they had been frozen--not in the supermarket freezer--within two days of their deaths. They didn't die in the freezer. Not that it makes the deaths anymore horrific, but try to reign in the outraged imaginations, here.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Everybody should just chill out, is that what you are saying nchenier?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree, I see dogs treated a lot better than children in a lot of places here. At least people try to keep their dogs quiet when they make a racket, and they don't let them run around a store with no regard for the other people in it. A little discipline like that with your child would go a long way!

Sad, so freakining sad, its one thing to not want, to give away, to abandon, to mistreat, or otherwise not take care of your children regardless of how they were conceived........but to freeze them to death???? Horrendous, this simply transcends all the excuses being made for "...how hard it it to raise kids especially unwanted births" No excuse, find out who did it, and deal with them harshly
