Bodies of two infants found in supermarket freezer

Sad, so freakining sad, its one thing to not want, to give away, to abandon, to mistreat, or otherwise not take care of your children regardless of how they were conceived........but to freeze them to death???? Horrendous, this simply transcends all the excuses being made for "...how hard it it to raise kids especially unwanted births" No excuse, find out who did it, and deal with them harshly

I agree, I see dogs treated a lot better than children in a lot of places here. At least people try to keep their dogs quiet when they make a racket, and they don't let them run around a store with no regard for the other people in it. A little discipline like that with your child would go a long way!

A horrible tragedy, but, wow, the details of this story have gone a little askew, in the original JT story and especially in these comments. It's like a bad game of telephone.

The local news (in Okazaki) is that they were found near the front of the market, they had been frozen--not in the supermarket freezer--within two days of their deaths. They didn't die in the freezer. Not that it makes the deaths anymore horrific, but try to reign in the outraged imaginations, here.

Stories like this used to give me the chills.

@gogogo Unfortunately gogogo the state of safety for children all over the world is in dire straits. Sad is the only word I can come up with for this and it too seems to be too small to encompass this tragedy.

kira, dolphin..with all these horrendous stories coming out I can't stop thinking what would I do if one of them involved my missing little boy..I can't imagine something as horrible and atrocious happening to him. After all, who knows? Stress and depression are taking over "some" people and turning them into monsters for what I can see. I pray that every little child goes to bed safety tonight. I pray and hope that we don't have to see stories like this again.

For everyone saying things about how adoption would have been the answer, just know that adoption laws in Japan are ridiculously strict; at any time, if they decide to, relatives of the child (no matter how distant) can take the child back.

I think a big part of this problem is that there is little to no sex education of kids in school. Kids don't understand that they could get STDs or get pregnant through sex because nobody tells them about the dangers. It's all pretty 'taboo'.

Regardless, this is a very sad story. I hope some answers come up soon and that whoever did this can get the psychological help they so obviously need.

Kyokosmile: You are so right about the koseki. It makes adopting a child not very attractive and it also forces women to either abort the baby or get rid of it when it is born rather than face the shame. Very sad state of affairs indeed.

I am a part of this society that kyokosmile allegedly insulted too, but I have to admit she is right - where is the outrage that would follow a story like this somewhere like the UK? I dont see it carrying a prime-time spot in the news, or commentators getting together to lament the state of "broken Japan". Its just move on, business as usual...and then it happens again. And again. And again. Im not saying the UK is any better than Japan - its not. But I can`t understand the lack of reaction by society to these kinds of stories.

I'm pretty sure it's darn near impossible to "get yourself pregnant."

Women in Japan are still wary of the pill and men refuse to use condoms (and which is easier--let's be honest here). Adoption is almost unheard of, abortion is extremely expensive, and on top of it all, too many Japanese people think they can't get STDs.

Sex ed around the world needs some improvement, but Japan needs it pretty desperately if they want to avoid cases like this, which often happen out of desperation and ignorance rather than malice.

LOL @ 7 year sentence! What a joke! The J-judicial system is a bloody mockery. I feel for that little girl and I hope she is resting in peace with little angels by her side. Don't worry about those 3 months, it was worth it. I would have done it too. That piece of garbage isn't only coming out but he's living-proof that killing your own children in this country ain't nothing serious as killing someone else's. The fact of the matter is that we will keep reading stories like this over and over. It hurts me but the truth shall not be sugarcoated just because I have a japanese family. I completely agree with you but how many Japanese kids have been adopted? Japan makes it impossible for a none Japanese to adopt a Japanese baby! That is why these idiotic young parents resort to killing their children because they usually get a slap on the wrist.

I'm not sure what mobilizing a massive force would do until they have an idea of whom it is who did it. What are hundreds are people going to look for when they have no leads or ideas? Figure out who did it, THEN mobilize the people to find them. That's not ultimately going to solve the problem of heaps of Japanese killing their babies recently. Get more baby hatches, EVERYWHERE, for starters, just in case. Then start working on trying to get the culture to realize the value of such a precious little human life.

Great post as always, Smithinjapan. Exactly what I meant on MY previous posts..nothing to do with racism or racial discrimination as some NEW poster(iLoveNippon)tried to emphatized. Coming from a J-Family myself, I find it hard to be rascist and discriminatory, LOL. Things like this still cease to amaze me. I mean how can any decent "human" do things like this. If they didn't want kids in the first place they should have thought about that before they opened their legs, or at least give it up for adoption and let someone who can't have kids, have children.

Not even animals kill their own babies ... no comments. Just ask for justice, hunt, arrest and keep those dudes in life prison.

Absolute solution is to use the rubber! Heck, take the pill beforehand too. There should be no reason to have an unwanted child. In the cases it does happen, drop the child off in the front door of authorities. They have no choice. It's a better decision.

If people dont want to have babies, they should either get medical treatment "pipe cut" the Japanese call ity, or else take precautions. Just because someone got themselves pregnant is no excuse to murder babies, either before or after birth.

There are more than a few moms who have snapped for a variety of reasons and killed their kids. The whole thing is tragic. Pity the people didn't get help.

I don't have anything to say. I can't comprehend someone taking a pregnancy to term, only to toss the babies in a freezer at the first opportunity. It is simply unfathomable to me how the mother rationalized this so I have no illuminating comments.

Pretty messed up but still pretty insignificant. You here about these things about once a week. In a country of 130 million people, probably pretty low even for a G7 nation. In my experience Japan and the Japanese really value children. Every one in the neighborhood sort of watches over them (and I live in the middle of a bunch of housing projects in a big city, even better in the country side). To say that Japan is messed up because of a few abuse cases you read about on JT is wrong. Japan is messed up for a bunch of other reasons...

Nemoflow, if you do that you ought really to compile one for your own country alongside it. JT has all the info you could possibly need about people killing Japanese kiddies, but you might need to look hard for info about your own country as it's so common it barely makes the headlines. Maybe if you can find a Japanese language news site along the lines of JT, which publishes all the nastiest and most outrageous information about your home country, then you might have an easier job. But most countries wouldn't put up with a bunch of foreigners making racist and offensive comments online, Japan is the only exception that I know of. (My own home country is awful too, regularly there are headlines that the mother or father is being investigated after a body of a child was found etc, and then afterwards there's usually a headline saying that they've been charged. This is at least as common in my home country as it is here, and there are less people back home unless I'm very much mistaken. UK.)

But what a horrific thing for some poor member of staff to find, and of course it's hard to imagine what the hell the culprit was thinking of, even if they weren't the parent, even if they were already dead when they were put in the freezer, after all they'd have made a noise if they were alive and alert so someone might have found them and rescued them. The people on this planet disgust me sometimes. I'm ashamed to be human.

Anyone fancy compiling a spreadsheet of all the dodgy kiddy crimes that go on here to expose how bad it really is?

I loathe stories like this... if you don't want a child then don't leave them to die. In the very least give them to someone else who cares for them...

it's a womans right before birth to 'terminate' her children in most industrialized countries, why is everybody so freaked out just because these suddenly frozen and abandoned little ones became babies instead of embyros after birth?its a brave new world right? we will see nothing but more of this the more life is continued to be legally marginalized.

I read that both babies still had umbilical cords and the boy was probably a premature baby, they died shortly after birth BEFORE being put in the freezer...

I'm curious, though.. if both babies came from one mother or two. I hope JT will report updated information as many of us want to know more.

I remember the precious moment of holding newborns when mines were born, and can hardly imagine how any mother could ever do this, even if the babies were born dead and I had no money, throwing them in a freezer would never come up on my mind.

For whatever reasons the mother(s) had, there should not be any excuse for doing this.

May be the monster put them to freeze to death. We do not jump to conclusions, but the culprit is probably from the inside. How can a customer have access to the supermarket freezer? We will wait and see. Very sad for the terrible death of the two angels...

Yeah, details are really sketchy. Maybe this came from two moms who found each other and came up with a plan, or some deadbeat dad or got two women pregnant and tossed out his kids. Who knows, needs lots of investigation.

This doesn't make sense. Unwanted pregnancies usually involve ONE baby, no? Since there are TWO babies in this case, the mother is either dumber than we think (because she had TWO unwanted pregnancies in a row), or there was another reason other than unwanted pregnancy... or it wasn't the mother that did this?

There is no proof it is a crime yet. It might be that the two children died and the mother being poor could not afford a proper burial, or the fact that the family lives illegally and so in Japan.....

Words cannot express my feelings and the anger at the mother (and father). Presumably the mother wanted to avoid the shame of friends and family finding out about an unwanted pregancy. With the shortage of births in this country and the number of people around the world waiting to adopt, it would have been easy to find a home for these poor souls.

bamboohat - according to a Japanese article I've read, it says that the both babies were approximately 30cm tall.. so they were both newborn babies.

for WHATEVER reasons the mother had(I am just assuming it was probably the mother who did this to these babies...), this is not acceptable.. I hope she will be found very soon and be punished. Even if the babies were born dead, still this isn't acceptable.

Personal liberties, like privacy, often have to be compromised for the good of the society, particularly its most vulnerable members, like children. Why can't Japan see this?

Its well known that the balance of mind can be significantly disturbed in such cases. There are infanticide laws going back almost a hundred years to deal specifically with this (where the mother is responsible within 12 months of birth) in some countries.

One child a newborn boy, one child a young girl. If they came from the same mom, then the girl was at least nine months old.

They'd been frozen for two days, and they aren't sure how they died. I hope mom didn't just have a change of heart, and shove two kids into the freezer, where they sat for two days before anybody noticed them.

Even if they find the mother or the parents they wont be charged, they'll say they have no money or no way to care for it and it will all go away. In fact we'll never hear anything more of it after this.

ratpack is right, although crimes against children are not exclusive to Japan, it seems like this country does have a problem preventing murders of children by their parents and careless supervision of kids playing in water (or strange dogs?!).

I am not an expert on the topic but know that its not unique to Japan. These crimes stand-out more in Japan because possibly of the safe surface appearance.

WoW !!!! I have never heard of a story like this before. It has to be a store employee or a friend of an store employee. Two or three people have to be involved in this crime. The mother couldn't have done this alone. Imagine walking into a huge warehouse and finding to frozen kids next to chocolate ice cream. Creepy!!! I would never shop at that store again.

This report is the typical vague and lacking in facts report. All we know is that the babies were not still born and they had been in a freezer for 2 days. What we don't know is, How old are they, days, weeks, ??? How did they die? no cause of death has been reported?

I can imagine a distraught mother, having given brith to 2 beautiful babies, got home from the hospital and a few days later to find them dead in their crib, from natural causes. And this mother, out of her mind, placing them in the freezer. As one possible scenario.

To think of the worst scenario, just makes me sick to my stomach, where the babies were alive when they were put in the freezer.

So we don't have enough facts to presume to know what really happened. Lets wait to see if the tabloid reporter who posted this can put together some more facts.
