The body of a cat with both its eyes gouged out has been found in the corridor of an apartment building in Kobe's Nagata Ward, police said Wednesday.

According to police, the dead cat, which appeared to be about 2-3 months old, was placed in the corridor near a stairwell in the building between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday, TBS reported. One of the gouged-out eyes had been stuffed in the cat's mouth, police said. The grisly discovery was made by a tenant at around 10:15 p.m.

Police said they looking at surveillance camera footage in the area to try and determine who brought the cat to the building.

Tom, Okinawa is shocking in terms of animal welfare - the number of strays is a good indication of that.

This is the second story about a cat being brutally killed by someone this week. Very disturbing.

Sick, sick society..."baby, kitten!" What do you get from doing that? Idiot!

Somebody knows something here, but I hope they will feel free to express their suspicions to the police.

I hope this kind of sicko doesn't live around here (Okinawa) near the park where I live. There are hundreds of cats living in the park. They are just doing what cats do. Then this guy goes around doing what he did? Very sick and most definitely newsworthy. Poor cat. I really wished they had 9 lives so the cat can come back and scratch his eyes out! Rest in peace little kitty.

Obviously a very disturbed person but, could this be some kind of twisted Yak/jilted lover message sent to someone who lives or works in the building?

I highly doubt a yak is going to bother with something like this. Clearly someone with issues. They need to find out who this person is and soon.

Yes. I think you can tell a lot by a nation and a population by how they treat animals and how they are punished for being cruel to them.

100% agree

Cats go outside, and as long as you dont live on a main road, cope quite well with traffic. Someone willfully hurting a cat, and a cat living an outdoor life and running the risk of having an accident, are two different things.

Ild be willing to take the risk, as long as there was no busy roads around, to allow a cat to roam, but people in Japan just dont seem to treat cats as living breathing creatures that deserve not to be hurt or tormented.

Feeling extremely disturbed after reading this news. Can any personal/mental problem be so worse that it leads any human being to act so cruelly?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well, it's not just the 90s Kobe crime, lots of violent criminals start off hurting animals. It's a pattern.

This crime shows a high level of violence and alienation, but also something else.

I believe being left in the stairwell was a conscious act, and means something. Could be he just wants to show off, but I think it is a kind of threat or evidence of a strong grudge against someone nearby. Take care.

I definitely think something is wrong with the person who did that. They need to be caught and evaluated, otherwise I fear it will escalate into something worse.

Yes, Tessa, I agree.

They walk among us...

J-crazies continue to wage war on J-kitties. This happens way too much here...

My cats don't go outside, they are perfectly happy as house cats, thank goodness. The reason why they don't go outside is sickos like this.

I think the chances of a cat being hit by a car outside is much higher than being mutilated by a nut.

Couple this story with the sicko that recorded drowning a cat and we've got some serial killer(s) in the making.

It made me feel sick just trying to read it...

This kind of news always upsets me. It's such a pointless act of violence. (not that any act of violence has a point to start with)

God...what is WRONG with these people and their obsession with killing cats? Leave the damn cats ALONE

7 ( +7 / -0 )

The police seem to agree that this is quite important. If they can catch the disturbed person who did this, we might be able to stop the next mass stabbing.

Yeah, it's a pretty sick act, but is it newsworthy?

I wont leave the dog tied up outside the supermarket either for the same reason. I suppose the perp will claim he is stressed, and nothing much will be done.

What's this spate of cruel attacks on cats? Sick, hateful people going around carrying out acts of cruelty on small animals... really brave.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Yeah, it's a pretty sick act, but is it newsworthy?

Are you suggesting these stories should be hidden? I prefer to know what kind of wackos are out there and act accordingly, like locking the doors. Not quite the honesty, safety utopia some people think. Better than other places though I'm sure.

Yeah, it's a pretty sick act, but is it newsworthy?

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

Yes.

sicko , they should do the same to the person that done it... I can volunteer!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The culprit needs a good dose of corporal punishment. Then some serious evaluation.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

That's wasn't a cat, it was a kitten which in my opinion, makes it even worse. Japan needs to keep their crazies in check and seriously start doing something about animal welfare.

Another sicko.

Very sick people ...
