Police said Saturday that the naked body of a 13-year-old boy was found on a riverbank in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture.

According to police, the boy was identified as Ryota Uemura. His body was found just after 6 a.m. Friday by a man walking along the Tama River, NTV reported.

Police said an autopsy revealed that the boy had been dead for about four hours before he was found. There were several knife wounds on this neck, face and arms. He was identified by his mother at 11 a.m. Saturday, police said.

As there were no clothes or personal items near the victim, police believe he was killed elsewhere and his body dumped on the riverbank.

Police said they are analyzing street surveillance camera footage that shows one person pushing a bike, with two others walking beside him, toward the riverbank. Later on, footage shows only two people returning. Police that in a nearby public toilet, there were ashes indicating clothes and shoes had been burned, NTV reported.

Police said the boy may have been lured to the area via social media, but his cell phone has not been found. They will question the victim's friends to see if he was being bullied at school.

Poor mother ! That is just SO terrible ! Had I ever found either of my sons covered in stab wounds and lifeless, I'm sure I'd have been completely brriken up...

Speechless.

I'm sure he wasn't reported as missing as his mother probably didn't even know he was gone. He probably snuck out after she went to sleep like many kids I know do. She may have realized he wasn't home after 8am or later. People assume their kids are sleeping... Could have even been a call from the police to come down when she realized he wasn't in his room! Very sad!!!!!

Oh his poor poor mother. Poor poor boy. That is beyond anything anyone should ever have to cope with.

Disgusting. Poor mother yes, but also poor boy. I can't imagine the pain he must have suffered... when I picture this happening to one of my boys it makes me shudder.

JapanYesterday: I wonder how the police were able to identify him. ... Unless he was reported missing or the police had his fingerprints or DNA on file, how did they identify him?

He was found Friday morning, the police can just ask the local schools for ID photos of all kids who did not show up to class that day. Also his family might have noticed he wasn't at breakfast table.

This is really a horrible story. However, having myself seen how badly some teenagers here sometimes behave, especially when they are placed in a group of their friends, it's very sad to say this, but I can imagine how this terrible thing might have happened. I just hope the police will arrest those criminals soon.

I am very very sorry for the mother and his family. This is the worst nightmare for the parent has to deal with their child's been killed in the worst way. I just hope who ever was the evil will get caught very soon and the boy and the family will be in peace.

How do they have ANY indication that he was 'lured there via social media'? They should at least spell out how they came to such assumptions because otherwise they are just grasping at invisible straws.

Why would the police need to "spell out" to reporters every single lead they are pursuing and the justification for doing so? The reporters are not part of the investigation and giving them that information would only hinder the investigation, because then detective-wanna-be's would be second-guessing every investigative step taken. Oh. Wait. You already ARE second guessing them and you don't know ANYTHING about this investigation!

Was he not reported missing at any point?

Another dead kid!

I wonder if he was bullied (on the news saw black eye from one month ago) and if so where were all those people laying flowers etc while this may have been happening. I ALWAYS wonder that when I see these stories. Help before something happens is so much better than putting the victims favorite things at the spot where he died.

Yep, looks like bullying then murder

In any case, agree with a poster above that this must be horrifying for all who knew the kid, and especially the mother who had to go and identify him. The police have got to have more than they are letting on. If shoes were burned amongst the clothes they assume were burned in the public toilet, there would be clear indications (ex. melted rubber, eyeholes, etc.). Another 11-year old murdered, and likely for no reason. RIP.
