The body of a newborn baby was found in a river in Otoshifurutone river in Kasukabe City, Saitama Prefecture, on Wednesday afternoon, police said on Thursday.
According to police, a man who was fishing in the river spotted the body floating and called police. Police said the infant's body was about 40 centimeters long and still had its umbilical cord attached.

And another tragedy here in Japan. So sad....

Sad indeed. What is going on with these "parents" that would abandon a baby. They seem to treat them like pets or some object, sickening to read these kinds of incidents.

And yet, many here are all against the baby hatch idea, which is still a better option than face down in the river.

The "baby hatch" idea only fosters this kind of thing. It encourages irresponsibility towards babies. This sort of thing will only heighten, thanks to the baby hatch thing. This is a tragedy. I hope that they find the sperm donor and the carrier (can't call them even "mother" and "father", as those are terms of endearment), and lock `em up for the rest of their natural lives....

The "Baby Hatch" does NOT encourage this sort of thing, the suggestion is completely ridiculous. This sort of crime has been going on forever, in every country. The baby's mother was going to do this regardless of a baby window hundreds of kilometers away. Maybe if the "Baby Hatch" were closer she would have felt she had another option other than letting the kid die in a river.

for the love of God! STOP KILLING BABIES AND CHILDREN!

Blue Tiger,
Think before you speak next time. Read telecaster player's comments and try to understand the logic behind them, and just try to imagine yourself in the position of the baby. Which would you prefer if your life was literally in the hands of a woman who was going to get rid of you one way or the other? I'm not trying to be nasty, mate, but you need to try puuting yourself in other people's place first. In fact, you should also put yourself in the woman's shoes and ask yourself what you'd do? A little sympathy, and even empathy goes a long way.

mind you the kid could have been still born...I retract my earlier anger if so.

Very sad indeed but at the same time we should not jump to conclusion and blame the parents for the death of a newborn ' For all we know the newborns mother was probably a teenager ' We need more education for young people and the consequences they face when raising a baby '

Anoymous Aussie - I did think before I posted, and, yes, I have had my life in another's hands. Even now, my life is in Another's Hands, and He's doing a good, good job of taking care. Just so you know, I have put myself in her shoes, and there is a thing called "looking to the needs of the other before yourself" that seems to always come into my mind. In a situation like this, and also with regards to the baby hatch/hutch thing, the people who do either of these -- killing the baby, or throwing baby way via a baby hatch or some other method -- are thinking of themselves, not the baby. This woman and her man were irresponsible in the first place for getting it on and having sex without thinking of the consequences first. The death of this baby is a further tragedy, and another symptom of the greater problem of selfishness, the new god of this world and this age.
telecasterplayer - the baby hatch option encourages this kind of action because the baby hatch encourages people to continue irresponsible behaviour and lifestyles, much in the same way that abortion on demand encourages the same thing. Instead of blaming the "Baby Hatch", why not blame this couples' parents? Where and when did they teach this guy and this doll responsibility? Where and when did they teach them that good actions bring forth good consequences, and evil actions bring forth evil consequences? I believe that if the sperm donor and the carrier are apprehended, that each of their parents ought to be charged with accessory to murder, in that they did not teach their children responsibility and responsible behaviour, because that is what it comes down to. Baby Hatches, orphanages, child drop-off centers, etc. are all a sad consequence of this age of self and selfishness, and all that these will do is encourage further irresponsibility among selfish and self-centered people.
If this murder of an innocent baby isn't the height of selfishness, I don't lknow what is....

again presuming the baby was killed and not still born which might be a possibility. Re the baby hatch, which is better; a hatch or a river? The baby would be abandoned either way. Yes responsibility would be great and the parents are to blame but this world is not perfect, never has been and never will be so, better to deal with reality and give desperate people a better option.
