Body of newborn baby girl found dumped in Chiba field

Police said Monday that the body of a newborn baby girl was discovered in a field in Inzai, Chiba Prefecture, on Sunday.

According to police, the body was discovered at around 11 a.m. on a patch of disused land by a worker cutting grass. TBS quoted police as saying the infant was wrapped in a bath towel with her umbilical cord still attached. The grass obscuring the body was around a meter tall, investigators said.

Early impressions were that no obvious signs of injury were visible on the girl's body, police said. It is thought that about a week had passed between the infant's death and the discovery of her remains. Police believe the infant was abandoned moments after her birth.

Investigators say that the land had been disused since November of last year and that an attempt to identify and locate the individual who entered the plot to dispose of the body is underway.

I get the feeling many/most Japanese citizens have almost no compassion at all

I get the feeling you possibly really don't know any Japanese people.

This is murder. I have no pity for the person who did this. Killing a baby because of their own circumstance.

@gobshite

Why "even more so" in Japan?

"deeper"? Are you kidding me? Angry teenagers spew the "society" bullshit every time they don't get their way or have to clean their freaking room. There is no excuse more superficial than that, quite frankly.

This happens way too regularly in Japan. It amazes me how a person could live with the guilt of such an act! It's not a hamster! It's a human baby!!!

@thkanner Society is you. Society is me. Neither you nor I made this decision, she did. If you want to blame human nature just do it, but 'society' is not a self-aware entity that can be blamed, and it is immature to continually blame this entity without cognizance.

Rest in Peace to the little angel. Just imagine all the things she could have achieved in her life - to learn, make friends, have a career, travel and see the world, maybe raise her own family. All of this snuffed out by an evil, selfish person. It is unforgivable - a pre-meditated, planned murder of an innocent baby. I hope this murder preys on the killer every waking and sleeping hour of her life.

Well said Marilita. It's always good to hear someone with a bity of compassion and understanding among the voices of the pitchfork-wielding mob.

As Cleo mentioned, we don't even know if she was a stillborn baby. Why so many accusations of "Murderer!"?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

First we have no evidence that it was a murder, The baby could have died from natural causes of childbirth. I would still think they would want to bury the baby properly. Jumping to conclusions when there are no facts is never wise Wait and see if there is a follow up story that actually has some investigation.

Japan is very much concerned about falling birth rate. This being the case each and every child is very precious to the country's economy. Abandoning a new born child and that too a female child may not be due to mental illness or abnormal mind. It is very often ascribed to the high cost of bringing up children, educating them and so on.The government should come up with some program which assures the unfortunate mother that it will take care of these children without punishing the mother. these children could be left at a designated place in all prefectures, cities, and villages in a very discreet and anonymous manner. passing on the blame to the mother and stigmatizing her will only complicate matters. the government should take up this matter with all seriousness and sincerity.

apathetic literally includes "without compassion".... cramp -_-

No options like putting the child up for adoption, or trying to find a baby hatch, or if the mother was smart and still had to be evil she could have at least sold the child to some parents that cant seem to get adoption papers in order... yeesh

As far as I know there is only one baby hatch (at a hospital) in all of Japan, in Kumamoto. One! The public need at least one in every city and more so, to be educated properly about this kind of thing. And to be educated in safe sex. It is very sad to read about these kinds of things... but until the government realizes they need to more about it... expect another article like this in the near future.

According to police, the body was discovered at around 11 a.m. on a patch of disused land by a worker cutting grass.

The vernacular Asahi digital is saying that the body was buried a few tens of centimetres deep in the field and found when the earth was turned over by a tractor. There was a wound to the head, thought to have been caused by the tractor.

Poor baby.

Whoever did this, shall be sentenced "DEATH PENALTY"

Whoever did what? Bury a body? We have no idea how the baby died. It could have been stillborn.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It's a case of mental breakdown obviously undiagnosed. The person who did this is totally in need of special care that obviously Japan lacks behind comparing to other countries. A sane person will never be able to do what has been done regardless of any circumstances nor situation within. I've seen cases of not wanting pregnancy at times and yet go ahead with the births and problems settled rightly because they were given proper support by family and society. She/ he needed help but was to ignorant to know where to go and what to do...how pitiful both for the baby and the mother. My opinion

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I don't understand why the japanese don't look for help when they need!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

.........I to do not pity the person who did this to their own baby. This is just sad and cruel. Whoever did this, shall be sentenced "DEATH PENALTY"....So sad T_T

I hope the person who left this poor little baby in the field is haunted every second of every minute for the rest of their life. I pray that they are caught and everyone finds out who this depicable human is. So sad

japanese are not without compassion, they're just apathetic

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

asked yourself: how much desperation , pain and hopelessnes must a mother feel to do such a thing. and who is putting her in this situation? than you figure out where and what the real problem is. SOCIETY

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

@jump, thats the thinking of people with no knowledge in psychology. i can understand your point but the truth lies a bit deeper than you think. but i dont blame you cos not everyone has this knowledge.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

This is a disgrace in any society, even more so here. I get the feeling many/most Japanese citizens have almost no compassion at all, in this case for their own flesh and blood. Shocking.
