The body of a newborn baby girl was found wrapped in a towel inside a plastic bag at the entrance to a hospital in Gifu, police said Thursday.

According to police, the discovery was made by a security guard near the side entrance to Murakami Memorial Hospital Asahi University at around 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, Fuji TV reported. The infant was already dead and her umbilical cord was still attached, police said.

Police are examining street surveillance camera footage to try and find out who left the infant and said the person or persons responsible face a charge of abandonment of a body.

I hope a competent ME does a thorough autopsy. If she was born alive, then it's murder. If a person acts with reckless disregard, and those actions could reasonably result in death, then it's murder. Do the baby some justice, because her "mother" treated her like trash.

sigh.. Another angel got robbed of a chance in life by an immature mother. And when I mean immature, I dont necessarily mean those under 20.. regardless of age, the person who did this must be very immature, not to mention heartless.

rest in peace little one. I hope your soul goes back and that time, be with a better parent.

What a terrible discover by the guard. I hope he receives proper aftercare. That's not the kind of memory to carry around with you.

Yes. All the family members, friends, and work/school colleagues know the "mother" concerned. There is an "in group" who have sanctioned this INFANTICIDE.

RIP Akachan!! :-(

I'd guess the baby was still alive when it was left there. It seems strange to leave a dead baby at the hospital. Sad tale, but we haven't heard one of these for a while, so that's a good thing, I guess.

ADOPTION!

More needs to be done to bolster this. In this age of declining births one life gone is a disgrace.

This made me cry ;o( @ Peter Qinghai, I hear your point about adoption and obviously it the better option than the one chosen just a little point i used to work at a orphanage here in Japan and not a a lot of kids get adopted most of them stay in the orphanage until leaving high school.

Doesn't sound exactly the MO of a heartless mother(family) that some of the readers have and will conclude from this story that gives expecting us all to give ignorant emotional responses to. The full truth we are not given, so the judgment I can't make.

Abandonment of a body? Isn't it too soon to declare that the child was already dead before they dropped it? I'm sure in autopsy will be performed. Only then and only then should a determination of abandonment or murder or whatever should be pursued against the parties responsible...

Take dna, create a crime report, wait until the criminal's dna shows up again and prosecute.

Above this link is the one about "19-year-old mother arrested for attempted murder of 3-week-old daughter."

R.I.P. little one. Japan and especially these mothers really need to do some serious soul-searching on how they value life. Tragic.
