The body of a woman was found Monday in the Nakagawa River in Mito City, Ibaraki Preefcture. Police have identified the body as that of a 40-year-old Hitachinaka City resident Junko Kawamata who has been missing since June 16.
The body was found on the bed of the Nakagawa River at around 3 p.m. The condition of the remains indicated that several days had passed since the death occurred, police said, adding they were able to identify the body as Kawamata from her dental records.
Kawamata's home was destroyed by fire on June 16, and she had been missing since then. After the fire, one of Kawamata's co-workers, a 23-year-old man, confessed to starting the fire.
Authorities plan to perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Kawamata's death.

Keep your eye on this one. First we have a dude who admitted to starting a fire, but he says nothing about the occupants of the house. Then one of them turn up dead in a river a few days later? Welcome to Denmark. Something is rotten here. It could be anything from the dude trying to hide a murder to the police forcing a confession out of an innocent man and then having an "oops" moment.
