Boy attacks sleeping father with survival knife in Saitama

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday for attempted homicide, accused of stabbing his father in his head and arms while he was asleep. Police said the father woke up around 2 a.m. after the boy stabbed him in the head, and fled his bedroom with his son running after him, continuing to attack him with the knife. His father was able to call for help, and when ambulance staff arrived at the scene, they found the boy standing in a daze with the knife in his hand.

The boy has admitted he intended to kill his father and told police: “I thought taking care of me must have been difficult.” He said he bought the knife with a 9 centimeter blade on the Internet, and that it arrived the day before the attack.

A classmate from the boy’s private high school described the boy as very active and had strong leadership skills, but a staff member said the boy started to come to school less and less, and was absent for nearly half of the second term.

The boy and his 57-year-old father lived together by themselves in Sayama City. The father’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Nothing wrong the society here, hey? It happens 5 or 6 times a month in Japan and at least once a month in Saitama.

If a son does this to his father, can a father forgive the son? how did their relationship turn so bad?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Less and less to school lately. I wonder what was he doing all day. Perhaps he got mixed with wrong company or is moving towards drugs. Now is the time to tach him a lesson, otherwise he will keep going for the rest of his live towards jail cxell. Consider his father a very lucky man.

The age group of the teens, area of incidents, and the frequency of the murders/attempted murders to the parents; I would think there is a trend happening. I hope the J-cops are doing research on the Internet websites. It may be a cult thing to kill parents. I remember a while back about a suicide website kids were posting on to kill themselves.

As I'm reading this, I can just imagine how many anti-saitama posters are gonna have a field trip with this article. For several months now I always thought they were unfairly generalizing, I'm starting to have a change of heart. no coincidence can be that bad.

Is it the air in Saitama that produces this kind of maniac? there seems to be a lot of such carziness in that prefecture.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Take THAT for feeding me and putting a roof over my head for the past 17 years!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow. The father survived. You see, had the kid gone to school and payed attention in anatomy class the attack would have been a success. Alas, he did not. I wonder what is gonna happen to the boy now. What do they do with these kids after such an event.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If the kid knew what he was doing then he would not have stabbed him in the head. Unless this was a mistranslation. Man!!! Saitama is like the Wild West. Or does Barbarians from the North sound better?

There is something I don't understand. If he thought he was a burden to his father, then he should have tried committing suicide...right?

'The boy has admitted he intended to kill his father and told police: “I thought taking care of me must have been difficult.”'

A survival knife is evil, it would be better to be killed by the kitchen steak knife! ONe of these days when the world grows up and the right laws are in place outlawing these killing knives, we can only see cases of kitchen steak knifes being used. Until then, we will all suffer.

I think the word is "easier". I don't know if you have ever thought about it, but a suvival knife is a thick bladed multi-purpose knife, not a fighting knife. The average kitchen knife is made to cut meat, and the blade is thinner although plenty strong. I would take most of those long bladed pointy kitchen knives over the survival knife and even the butterfly knife too. The only thing the kitchen does not have is a reputation, and believe me, reputation counts for nothing when you are carving.

Anyway, a survival knife is neither a killing knife nor evil.

this is rather disturbing..

"I thought taking care of me must have been difficult" So, you were trying to kill your father for his own good? Damn, if you're 17 and can't stand your father, just leave. Stuuuuupid.

I thought taking care of me must have been difficult ...

Yeah ... Kenji, about that college money ...

I think the boy just needs a "hug" or a "role-model." That's all case closed.

For all those who keep scratching their heads as to why they think this is ONLY HAPPENING IN SAITAMA!!!! It happens EVERYWHERE IN JAPAN, but reporters are messing with your minds!!!! They prey on adults who have the mind of a child and think that just because they only print stories from Saitama, it only HAPPENS in saitama, and therefore is incredible news. Grow up people.

Its Saitama again.....man....there has to be something in the tap water! Pizzaboy....shut up......its funny that it does happen everywhere else, but they are reporting on saitama here and thats that. Suck it up and move on.....

Wow. This OLDER kid is a punk. He waited to until the middle of the night to try and kill his dad. I mean where are they learning to kill and then act like it is someone else’s fault. I mean he knows he is 17 and nothing is going to happen to him. I mean where the standards are. If any kid can try and kill their parents and get away with it there is something really wrong with this society. When are the law-makers and government officials going to realize that the kids today are not the same as they were when the law was written? I mean kids and pimp other kids and they just get a slap on the wrist but as soon as you reach 20 your thought that you have learned everything and you can accept responsibility. Things here need to change soon or there is going to be a generation of kids that are going to be untouchable. These OLDER kids need to understand they there are consequences for their actions. I mean if you don't want to put them into Jail/prison then release the family name. Make it public who they are and who their families are. Maybe that will make parents more responsible for their children.

Why would a 17 yr. old attempt to kill his father?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree with Smith.

Poetic Justic if the father now afraid of the son strangles him one night as he sleeps. "I always hated the burden of responsibility my son brought into my life... so I ended that burden last night officer."

they call here the land of the gods.you guys brace for more.there is more in the pipeline

His father indulged such behaviour in his son (don't want to go to school, fine, you don't have to &c.), instead of raising him in a nurturing and disciplined environment. Packing your kid off to private school doesn't make up for the education and guidance a parent has to give to his own children. The father is as much to blame as the kid.

I wonder how you know this family's situation oreoreda. Pure speculation. Welcome to JT and the world of conspiracy.

Wow, this shows the boy clearly had anger problems with his dad more than anything else. had he simply wished to kill him, he would have poisoned him or something. If you wanted to kill a sleeping person with a knife it would be easy just to slice the neck in the right spot rather than stab and stab and stab and chase and stab some more and only leave non life threatening injuries. I suspect the mom left and the boy blames the dad for mommy leaving him alone with the alcoholic wanker. Or maybe he was posessed by some girl that is still angry because she died before 20 year old wear a kimono day and drink by the station.

I don't know who translated this article but I've been informed that the boy used a dagger/dirk, a double edged combat stabbing knife, of the kind that was banned last year after the Akihabara incident. Most real "survival" knives have one sided, often serrated on the back, blades that are much larger than 9cm in length.

Bushlover, I read an article on the Tokyo Shinbun website, there is media other than JT out there. He became a hikikomori, buys a knife online, deliberately attacks his father while he sleeps. What's your explanation, 'Because it's in Saitama'?

bamboohat, the mother of the family died from cancer 12 years ago.

What a bizzare story... It sounds like there is much much more to this. Something must have been going on in that house in order to force this kid to not only NOT go to school but to come up with this plan to order the knife purposefully to stab his dad with it. And why order a knife, and not take one from the kitchen? That also makes no sense to me...

"Survival" knife, LOL.

Saitama, LOL.
