Police in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, on Sunday arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of negligence resulting in death after his girlfriend’s three-year-old son drowned in a bathtub filled with hot water.
Police said Mitsuki Kashimoto, a construction worker, was bathing the child at his home in the early hours of Sunday, Kyodo News reported. However, he left the boy in the bathtub to go and get a toy for him to play with. While he was absent, the boy slipped under the water and drowned.
The boy’s mother was asleep at the time.
Police said Kashimoto has admitted to the allegation and added that they are also questioning him about bruises found on the boy’s body.

I do not think 3 year olds drown that easily. This sounds very suspicious.

If it was abuse then string them up and hang 'em high. Japan law and enforcement of the law is too slow. It's a muppet show!!! And forget the apologetic bowing if they turn out to be wrong. If leadership and those in high positions make a mistake or take responsibility they do the NOW common fake insincere bow.
I am Japanese, if they want to be sincere then go old school.....Harakiri!

BS. 3 years old is plenty big enough to take a bath on their own.
Hopefully, they can use that evidence to get him to confess to what really happened in that bathtub. And, they can change "negligence" to something more appropriate.
Maybe they can get the mother to corroborate his abuse, and even her own, if applicable.

Another new boyfriend not wanting the "leftover" kid from the previous relationship. Ladies.... you do not need these types.

Negligence? While he was out, the 3 year old slipped ? And drowned?
And his mother was sleeping in the bedroom ?
Tell that to the judge!

First I was going to say that it doesn't surprise me - I have freaked out over people not watching a toddler in a bath. But bruises? If he beat the boy, he needs to be put in a room with someone who will give him some bruises.
