How is being saved from bankruptcy traumatic?
Aussieboy
Sounds like he is trolling them, I like!
buzzyboy
Why is Saikawa not being investigated? And why does anyone in this comments board take racist tinawatanabe seriously?
nandakandamanda
The Man in the Iron Mask.
Chico3
The Escape Artist and Papillon.
Ascissor
I read in the Asahi Shimbun today that the prosecutors might be investigating how Saikawa signed documents agreeing to the deferred remuneration. What irked me was that statement from the prosecutors saying "there is an investigation underway, so we will refrain from commenting". But that didn't stop the prosecutors (oh sorry, I meant "kankeisha") from divulging juicy tidbits of info on Ghosn.
tinawatanabe
It is only natural of them considering their trauma of dealing with Ghosn and Renault.

The Trial by Kafka, obviously.
Papillon - although the conditions on Devil's Island might be preferable.

If you are not JAPANESE you are not part of the system, so as a foreigner being accused, well your screwed. Crimes by JAPANESE are solved pretty quick, because of immediate confession, its in their culture they cant say NO, a confession from a Japanese citizen is almost guaranteed.
Problem for the Japanese is Carlos didn't get to where he's at without some serious negotiation skills, and the Japanese will have their hands full trying to get anything out him. The Draconian system here is going to get spotlight coverage like never before when and if they have a trial. The people pulling and pushing this whole fiasco are in for a rude awakening and probably should prepare for some possible fall out from all this.
Ahh yes JAPAN the World is watching and taking note, do not be surprised if some of your citizens find themselves in a undesirable predicament, and they get caught up in some accidental BS and get stalled in the justice system of another country like say France or Even Brazil, or Lebanon.

The Japanese Tax Code?
well that would classify as a thriller, you never know what your going to get.
yokohamarides
Endo’s “Silence”- or anything by Kafka would also help him understand the situation.
geronimo2006
Hollowed out book with keys to get out of cell, disguise, cash, fake passport etc to get out of the country. Now that would be thrilling.
Joey
Next headline news: goshn is OK using a Japanese toilet.
Kaerimashita
The Japanese Tax Code?
Jimi
send him George Orwells 1984 and Animal farm... Japan in a nutshell.
Aly Rustom
EXACTLY!
I hope so!
Kenji Fujimori
I would of asked for all you can eat Brazilian food, there's a good restaurant in Roppongi
Akie
Ghosn wants thrillers. He got it. Enjoy.
wtfjapan
Escape From Alcatraz. That was a book too, right? lol
irony is if / when he does escape it wont be with a swim to freedom , more likely the prosecutors lack of eveidence in court since a forced confession is highly unlikely. Hell probably just stroll out the front prison gates. LOL
wtfjapan
Ghosn will be out, no doubt about it.
most likely , and when he doesn hes going to squeel for the whole world to hear, there are many in the J government and business fraternity that are going to have egg on their faces all the while crying that its Japan bashing. LOL

The prosecutors must be pretty boring. Wikipedia noted Ghosn speaks 4 languages fluently plus was learning Japanese. No idea how far along that went. A subject of many books, wrote a few himself, and even has a Ghosn Bento named after him
He must see 20 steps ahead and is just too much for them to handle

"What book would you send Carlos Ghosn to read over Christmas?"
Escape From Alcatraz. That was a book too, right? lol
Jessie Lee
"Japanese detention cells are not heated and the weather can be chilly, Mendonca said Ghosn told him he was warm."
Sounds like he may need a kotatsu and a bottle of shochu rather than thrillers to keep him warm on those long winter nights.
Kiwi in Okinawa
I see the response as a quiet middle finger to the stupid Japanese law practices that are keeping him locked up without any actual charges being laid.
A way of saying you've not broken my spirit yet, but I am getting a tad bored, could you send a book please..
Fouxdefa
Like a boss! He could be as guilty as the devil, either way I just hope this high-profile case coupled with his strong will can expose unjust prosecution practices. I'm not holding my breath for sweeping system changes though.

Ghosn is lucky he has three nationalities and therefore three times as many visitors allowed. What about his deputy, Kelly? Is anyone bringing him books and fruit? Sending him heat-tech clothes from Uniqlo?
kwatt
Ghosn holds French, Lebanese and Brazilian citizenships, and someday 50 more citizenships.
PTownsend
In Japan, as well as other nations where corporations can dictate policies, I don't think there's a clear delineation between government and big business.
Schopenhauer
I wonder whether the Japanese government or politicians involved in this issue. It seems to me there was not sufficient reason to arrest Ghosn.
Akie
Ghosn will be out, no doubt about it.
Akie
Let Japanese polices keep him healthy.
commanteer
Whatever one thinks of Ghosn, he is an expert negotiator. And his confinement and interrogation is basically a form of negotiation by the prosecutors, who are used to dealing with people who can't negotiate at all. I think they are out of their league with Ghosn in this case.

A good movie to watch concerning the Japanese legal system and its detention centres is Kore-eda's marvelous thriller The Third Murder. It won 4 Japanese academy awards. I hope they bring a copy of the book for Ghosn.
Kobe White Bar Owner
"My impression is that he is a strong man in the sense that he will fight this out properly. He doesn't look worried," Mendonca told The Associated Press on Wednesday at Brazil's consulate in Tokyo. "I admire him for his fortitude."
Pleased to read this, hope he can help bring this backward "justice system" in to the 21st or even 20th century.
Aly Rustom
3rd world conditions.
This detention could turn him into a hero. I just hope that it sheds light on this backward system so that the ball gets rolling and things change. Japan responds well to name and shame.
Do the hustle
Im sure they’ll find another set of charges to hold him for without any conviction. Guilty until proven innocent! TIJ!
macv
the great escape
thepersoniamnow
Lol, he wants to read thriller novels.
Thats probably not a bad idea.
