Very Sad, accidents happen, I just wish it did not result in her death. RIP

A bus is a lot less maneuverable than a teenager. It's very hard to bring a bus to a quick stop. The bus driver is not going to be negligent, at least in the normal sense, when he is unable to defy the laws of physics and stop his multi-ton vehicle in a few metres.

The girl was hit as she was walking across the road.

Doesn't say if it was on a crossing, was she running? Sad all round, that will stay with the driver for life. RIP

Could it be perhaps she had headphone on and she walked out into traffic, this happens alot.

This is very sad for both families. I am pretty sure the driver feels very remorseful a bus is not easy to stop once it gets going.

Police said visibility was good along the straight two-lane stretch of the road where the accident occurred. The girl was hit as she was walking across the road.

We need to know why she was on the road or why was the bus on the foot path, then we can atleast make some considerations.

Sad. This is an area where I think AI has a lot of potential, to help avoid accidents with distracted or negligent drivers.

AI can mess things up just as badly. Personally, I'd feel safer with a human.

Very sad indeed, I am not blamming the driver or the girl, I am sure the police will or should take witness statements, and come to a conclusion, In the UK its mandatory that one in so many employees is a qualified first aider ( first responder in the US) is this the same in Japan? would the driver have had any first aid training?

These stories always leave out a lot of pertinent information like - was she in an intersection. In my opinion, they always say when that is so but since they didn't it means she wasn't and as tragic and this is if that is the case then the driver should not be charged. RIP to the young girl.

I don't think that's quite the case. Paramedics are part of the ambulance service, although one may not always be present.
