Police in Aisai, Aichi Prefecture, have detained the 36-year-old manager of a cafe for making a false report that his establishment was robbed.
According to police, the man called 110 on Jan 13 and said a man with a knife had come into the cafe at around 5:20 p.m., threatened him with a knife and demanded money, Sankei Shimbun reported. The man told police he handed over about 270,000 yen and the man left.
However, street surveillance camera footage showed no one entering or leaving the cafe at the time of the supposed robbery.
Police said the cafe manager, who has admitted to making a false report, faces a charge of violating the Minor Offenses Law. They did not say whether the man had stolen the money or not.

Does he never watch the news? Because if he did he would have noticed that almost every robbery case these days is solved with the help of "bohan kamera". I am thinking about a minor Darwin Award here.
