Police in Honjo, Saitama Prefecture, have arrested a 36-year-old male caregiver on suspicion of beating an 82-year-old man at a nursing home.
According to police, the suspect, Koichi Yabutani, beat the elderly man on the left side of his face at around 2 a.m. on Friday, Sankei Shimbun reported. The man's injuries will take about two weeks to heal, doctors said.
The man's son noticed the injury when he came to visit his father on Saturday and notified police.
Yabutani was quoted by police as saying the elderly man got his nerves because he kept talking loudly to himself during the night.
Police are investigating to see if Yabutani has abused any other residents of the nursing home.

Well, judging by that recent story where the workers were filmed stomping on a resident's head and were still working there four years afterward, this guy will probably get a promotion.

Exactly! And these are only the cases you find out about. Guaranteed there are thousands more that never go reported.

Post his home address on the internet and it will be taken care of. And someone should have a talk with the Head of the Nursing Home.

You should not take the job as care giver Yabutani if you are impatient and short temper..and the reason you are being paid is to take care of those old people in the nursing home NOT to hurt them..you fool(￣□￣;)!!

How could somebody hurt an old person like that? He's not young anymore, so his body won't heal super fast when it comes to being hurt. I'm glad he was arrested but he probably won't get too severe of a punishment anyway.

A friend of mine who works in one of those homes in Tokyo for the elderly said that abuse also goes the other way too with residents abusing the staff, including biting, scratching and punching, to the point where some staff were injured and required hospitalization.

I fault the son for placing his father in a place like that and not caring for him himself. Everyone know how places like that treat the elderly.

Most of the staff working in homes for the eldery do a great job of taking care of them. Yabutani is an exception, one of the bad apples in the barrel.

Considering that they are underpaid, overworked, and often not qualified at all (in Japan), I think that they do a good job. However I would have great qualms about leaving an elderly relative in the care of a run-of-the-mill nursing home. I've heard too many horror stories, even in my own neighborhood.
