The man is a financier who has been staying at the hotel since February.

That is a long time to be cooped up in a Japanese business hotel. If he's carrying that amount of cash around regularly then he is probably a loan shark but I wonder about the watches; maybe a sideline?

You'd assume he had regular room cleaning if he's been staying there since February. Wouldn't be a stretch for hotel cleaning staff to tell an outside acquaintance about cash boxes and watches....

With that kind of money and those type of watches, it seems like a luxury hotel would be better than a business hotel.

The hotel is not responsible for valuables left in the hotel room and not in a hotel safe, that's quite the rule everywhere, not only in Japan.

Strange guy, quite suspicious. If this money and these watches belong really to him why did he not rent a safe deposit box in a bank for these watches and his cash?

Detectives may be asking the same questions posed on this thread. Mr. Financier also may have revealed too much while out drinking. Chuo-ku is the primary financial center within Osaka, but also has many entertainment venues, and Osaka’s crime rate is higher compared to other Japanese urban areas.
