18 Comments

Police in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, said Saturday that a 26-year-old woman was attacked by a man wielding a metal rod as she walked home on Friday night.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 8:40 p.m. while the woman was walking along the road by herself in Azumadaihonmachi. The woman told police that a man suddenly came up behind her and struck the back of her head with a metal rod, NTV reported. The man then proceeded to strike the woman repeatedly on her head and arms until finally he fled the scene leaving her lying on the ground and severely wounded.

The woman was rushed to the hospital having sustained major injuries including several gashes on her head and a broken arm, police said.

At the scene of the incident, there are few streetlights and very few pedestrians at that time of night, police said.

Random attack or retribution ?

Some weirdo's around so either answer could well fit this.

Seems it wasn't a robbery or they would have mentioned that in the article.

Scary and sad.

Hmmmm, was this a random attack or another jilted lover gone crazy? Hope she recovers.

This isn't the first time this has happened.

Japan, not safe any more. All the false curtesies and humility have been revealed. It has always been a hoax but bad economic times has made it even more clear.

Who will provide the justice to this woman? why there was no cctv around the scene?

Using a weapon to beat a defenseless woman. What a coward!

Never robbed her, just whacked her with a bloody great metal rod. Hope they catch this evil b'st'rd and give HIM a right good kicking. Scum like that should be locked up for a very long time.

Exxxxxxxxxx another nutter who got jilted

They're talking about blood and gashes, but I'd be pretty worried about damage to the brain. A metal bar could leave you with serious injuries or disabilities for life.

Not reported= she's ok?

So simple - don't walk alone if you are a woman then. You won't ever change human nature, so learn to side-step it.

My own town added 240 extra security cameras bringing the total to 350 in our major commercial area after a recent incident plus added extra lights to a few streets with heavy pedestrian traffic at night.

Hoping she recovers soon.

Kittychosen is right, don't know why s/he's getting those thumbs downs. Be careful when alone if it is dark, anyone, moreso if you are small or weak or a child, moreso if you are a woman. Just survival 101.

@Kittychosen

What the hell? Why should she have to change the way she lives so deadbeats like this can roam the streets and do as they please? Not to mention, it wasn't even that late at night. What if she lives by herself? What - she has to get a taxi home every night?

Ridiculous argument.

If it's human nature to beat other people with metal rods, I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

That must have been very scary.

@Sighclops

Why should she have to change the way she lives so deadbeats like this can roam the streets and do as they please?

Indeed, why should I change the way I live so (for example) bears can roam (for example) the forest and do as they please?

Because it is nature. Only in the last few decades have woman had the idea they have a 'right' to walk as they please at night un-molested. Rights do not exist, but some men have an instinct to attack (as does any other animal). Why do you think that throughout history women have had chaperones or stayed indoors? For their own safety.

I'm still here, living on this earth, un-molested & un-violeated because I do not try to go against nature. I learn to live with it accordingly. Never felt I missed out on any rights!

Steel toe capped clogs and a sturdy umbrella were my weapons of choice on the occasions I did return home alone after a night out though...
