Common-law couple arrested over death of 2-year-old girl

Police in Tondabayashi, Osaka Prefecture, have arrested a 46-year-old woman and her 50-year-old common-law husband on suspicion of child neglect resulting in the death of the woman’s two-year-old granddaughter who died after being found unconscious at their municipal apartment.

According to police, the girl, Yuha Ono, was found unconscious and bleeding from the mouth, in a playpen in the living room at around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday by a boy who called 119, Kyodo News reported. She was taken to hospital where she died later Wednesday.

Police said Thursday that an autopsy revealed Yuha had died of heatstroke and that she was emaciated from not having eaten enough food recently.

Police arrested Yuha’s paternal grandmother, Mayumi Ono, and her common-law husband Takanori Momota. Police quoted the couple as saying they had left Yuha in the apartment alone for about 11 hours on Wednesday while they went to Universal Studios Japan with Ono's five-year-old son. They said they left a window open.

Police said that Yuha had been living with her grandmother, Momota, her grandmother’s 15-year-old son and the five-year-old. Her parents lived elsewhere. It was the 15-year-old boy who found Yuha and called 119.

Yuha was placed in her grandmother's care after she was taken into protective custody in January 2020 because her father had been abusing her mother, according to a child welfare center.

Police also said that Ono stopped taking Yuha to a daycare center in June last year and believe that she was repeatedly neglected.

Great family environment …NOT!

Poor child. She really got one of the worst possible draws: a father who was abusive to her mother, one terrible grandmother and her equally terrible common-law husband. Just about everyone in this child's life failed her. RIP.

So the poor girl was forcibly removed from a potentially dangerous home only to be put with a more dangerous grandmother? That is reprehensible. Way to go Japan Child Services!

The dysfunction on display here is endemic in a significant part of the society and serves as a permanent rebuke to those vested with the power to affect the living conditions of this vast underclass but who instead seem cynically determined to foment conditions conducive to its formation. The lack of even one iota of compassion and cynical belief that an underclass is a necessary evil is predicated on the ruling elites presumption that they have nothing to fear from the proles. Let’s hope they’re wrong!

Every time I read of a child dead through abuse in Japan, I shudder. In some sense, something peculiar to Japan. (Of course I know it happens elsewhere too). Usually it’s a youngish woman, and it’s nearly always with a father that’s not the father of the child. Usually a young woman takes up with a rough laborer ( no offense meant to manual workers) and gives up on her child who she mistreats as he does. So, this case is strange because it’s grandparents, but still an odd marriage in the mix. Low class people nearly every time too. And a suffering child who does not even know what is going on! And so alone. I blame Japan for letting this happen again and again.

How can one reach middle age and yet still be such a maroon? We’re they both dropped on their heads when they were infants?

It seems the father of the victim learned all he knew about abuse from his own family. I can't understand how the victim was left on their "care" if the father already demonstrated to be an abuser. It would be natural to think the people in charge would first investigate properly the family members they choose to take care of a child.

Execute these Sickos. Off to disneyland whilst a tidler died in a cage if dehydration. Anyone this thick is a risk to society. Remove permanently
