Convenience store employee injured by robber

A female employee at a Lawson convenience store was injured by a knife-wielding man who robbed the store in Nagano on Saturday morning.

According to police, the man entered the store at around 2 a.m., NTV reported. Police said he approached the 45-year-old woman at the register, threatened her with a knife and demanded money.

After taking about 25,000 yen from the register, the man started to leave but the woman grabbed at him. The man knocked her down and she suffered a light head injury, police said.

There were no customers in the store at the time.

The suspect is described as being in his 20s or early 30s, 175 cms tall and of thin build. He was dressed in black and was wearing a black cap and white face mask.

Agree with others that the woman was stupid. No excuse for the robber, of course, but she is lucky she just got a bump in the head and not a deadly stab wound. She should have let him leave and call the cops, period.

For any and all of you who call her 'stupid' for doing what she did, do you even bother to think she thought it was wrong to be robbed and got righteous? Not stupid, just pi**ed off!? Emotions in the moment of strife have nothing to do with stupidity. We're all human. Give her a break before condemning her for a natural response.

Well, now they can charge the thief with attempted murder!

The "woman employee" grabbed at the knife-wielding robber? Um,.. it's almost like a kamikaze counterattack! She absolutely shouldn't have hit back at the holdup for such a small sum of money - presumably insured. This time she somehow escaped death by good luck. She could have been killed in the worst-case scenario.

At any rate, it's good for her to have suffered only a light head injury.

Give the robber the money and anything else he/she wants. It is not worth YOUR life for insured money. Why don't combini's have good quality surveillance cameras? I know the one's where I live are awful, the police are always asking for the public's help in identifying them, hell, their own parents would not recognize them.

Maybe all shops should have those "anti theft balls" http://www.neatorama.com/2010/09/02/anti-theft-device-balls-of-orange-paint/

Tackling someone with a knife is just plain stupid. Working in a convenience store, she gets wha,t 800 or 900 yen an hour?? Just give them whatever they want. I have trained in martial arts for more years than I care to remember and I wouldn't go up against a knifeman unless it truly was a life or death situation.

In the U.S., convenience store staff suffer one of the highest on the job injury and death rates. I doubt Japanese violent crime rate will come close to the U.S., but combini staff (especially graveyard shift) need to undergo workplace violence training. No amount of money is worth risking serious injury or death. Just give them the money and call the cops.

Risking your life for 25,000 yen? Stupid.

They should install panic buttons in all convenience stores, preferably the remote kind. It would cost peanuts since it is just a single function remote that sends a signal to a computer to dial 110 to play a pre-recorded message along the lines of, "Emergency assistance required at Lawsons convenience store at ".

This would take all the pressure off the convenience store worker to be a "hero".

Should read "Store employ gets self injured attacking robber", cause that's what happened.

Attacking a knife-wielding man with no weapon of your own is a fools gamble. And over chump change in the conbini register that is not even yours?

And that is two would-be injured heroes for the boss's pocket change in Japan in one week. Dummies!

Not brave at all! Just stupid! It's not worth risking your life for 250 bucks of insured money!

Brave woman to be grabbing at a man with a knife. I thought a lot of convenience stores only hired men for graveyard shifts for this very reason. Anyways hope they catch him pronto.

Glad she's okay, hope he gets caught or karma pays him back. How about getting a job you scumbag.
