Convenience store thief strikes again in Yokohama

A man on Tuesday morning assaulted a convenience store worker in Yokohama, the latest in a string of thefts which police believe have been carried out by the same man. Police believe the suspect is Osaka-born Yuya Muta, 22, who has been on the wanted list nationwide for a series of convenience store hold-ups.

According to police investigations, the man entered the store around 4 a.m. and threatened the 18-year-old shop clerk with a knife. He stole about 70,000 yen and fled. Nobody was injured, police said.

Police said the suspect, whose face was captured on security cameras, resembles Muta who is believed to have robbed 11 stores in Yamanashi, Kanagawa, Nagano, Chiba and Tokyo since August.

It is 'Convenience Store' what else would you expect. Most of the thief’s are attracted to these stores. And that is why you have to pay so much good. Security and losses are included in the price. If cops believe that the same 'scumbag' is doing this for a while, how come such elite police couldn't nab him, at least they could set up a trap.

at least they could set up a trap.

Too funny! This dude has not been robbing the same 7-11 over and over you know. He has robbed 11 stores in 5 prefectures! This country has so many conbini, that if they sent a pair of cops to guard each one, they would not have enough left over to fish Teletubbies out of the Imperial moat. --Cirroc

Put up some more posters. That'll get him.

Back in the 80's when my home town in the states was having a series of robberies like this, the county sherif did a novel thing. He put an armed deputy in the back of random stores with no patrol car visible, and they had orders to identify and shoot. In a few months, these types of robberies went down considerably. Can off-duty J-cops take an extra security job at these types of places like some cops do in America, or are they forbidden to have a part time job like some workers are here in Nippon? Nothing deters crime like seeing a cop in uniform just sitting in a store. I would do it, even with a 24 hour shift like some cops supposedly have. What would be the difference?

Didn't even try to hide his face. It will take them years and years to find him. The national wanted list is useless because no one attempts to help report. Not even rewards get people out of their shell.

Caveman you crack me up!!...."fishing Telletubbies outta the moat".... Tis so true about the conbini's being a dime a dozen. Kinda like McD's here. Let's supersize Japan.

Yep, Jpns off-duty cops are not allowed to moonlight. No big bucks for them.

Doesn't surprise me, Japan has been getting really bad lately!, This past year up until now has been horrible.

Cops aren't allowed to have outside jobs in Japan.

That might be true in America, but have you seen the cops in Japan? They're mostly oji(i)sans.

It's good that the clerk handed over the money and didn't try to be a hero for the convenience store's bottom line. The clerk will live to see another day instead of being praised posthumously for his or her efforts to save money for the company.

Borcht it also depends on the criminal. Some victims do what the criminal wants and still get assaulted/killed -__-
