Cop's handcuffs stolen while he's investigating adult entertainment business

A 31-year-old police officer had his bag containing handcuffs stolen while investigating an adult entertainment business in Ueno last week, after he ran out of the store to chase a female employee who fled the scene, police said.

The officer, a sergeant based at the Ueno police station in Taito Ward, was investigating the premises at around 2 a.m. on Oct 15 when the woman ran out of the store. The officer chased after the woman, dropping his bag - which contained two pairs of handcuffs and two ropes used in detaining suspects – on the ground. The officer returned to the scene several minutes later, where numerous people had gathered on the street, but the bag was missing.

A senior officer at the police station said: “We’ll strive to make sure this kind of thing never happens again.”

It's a banner day for weirdo cop stories.

I can imagine his restraining devices are being put to good use.

while investigating an adult entertainment business

Pretty sure he got distracted during that time.

Let me guess, he was investigating upskirt videos and the female employee noticed that he was soooo infatuated with his investigation, she took the liberty to steal all what she could take.

I am sure the girl ran when the cop went in there to "restrain" her.

Hmmm, a likely story. Sounds more to me like he was headed to his favourite SM club.

Another fetish related crime. Tsk tsk tsk.

The headline says it all!!!!!!!!

Some of the comments here are disgusting. Obviously this fine upstanding policeman was tied up doing something else when his handcuffs were stolen.

. The officer chased after the woman, dropping his bag - which contained two pairs of handcuffs and two ropes used in...

'detaining suspects'!

Yeah, I'm sure he was actually doing some good, but the article does have humourous overtones!

I wonder if "investigating adult entertainment business" really means "while a customer at a ..." ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

this cop at least was hopefully not stealing underwear or taking video.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Jeez, did the keystones have their bounenkai early or something?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

so the police "was tied up" doing something else when his handcuffs were stolen. ? You seemed to have some insight of that story, good job, timorborder.

and two ropes used in detaining suspects...

Umm...what the hell?

This just in: cops box of condoms stolen, open & used while investigating adult entertainment business hostess.

classic J-cop fail

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is exactly why these J-Clown-Cops have no business even carrying firearms... They aren't REAL cops and they certainly aren't trained for REAL police work.

Just give them rubber hose and a whistle, if they get stolen, it's no big deal and those of you that think, there's virtually no situation where they should use a firearm, will indeed have nothing to worry about!

How was he expecting to detain her afterwards?Carry her on his shoulders to the station or what?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So many comments to make on this, so little time. :-)

I figure a customer mistook the cuffs for props and simply borrowed them. They'll show up again later . . . Slightly used.

Were they velvet ropes I wonder?

And if you believe that, you'll believe anything! ah ha ha.

"uh, boss, I uh, was investigating the brothel, alone, when, uh, well, uh, my handcuffs were stolen."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well it's better than him being found in his handcuffs with a stain on the front of his trousers.

Got to love how in this day and age, Japanese police still tie up suspects (as if handcuffs aren't enough).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Investigating", eh?

Got to love how in this day and age, Japanese police still tie up suspects (as if handcuffs aren't enough).

At least they aren't tasering everything that moves...

I bet there was a whip in his bag too, and blind folds.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

HAhahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!! BakaMan!!!

Seems like an open and shut case to me, Ueno police making their nightly rounds and doing what they do best. It's every J-Cop's dream to get the Ueno beat, so many hidden extras on that patch :)

These loser cops make the image of a cop look even more stupid and hopeless. They do not deserve any respect or attention. Maybe in real life they have nothing so they find victims in the ordinary innocent people which is disgusting. So sad.

I saw 2 Jcops (uniformed, of course) on bicycles in Ueno that same Wednesday afternoon stopping a bicyclist: 2 cops to checkout one bicycle; today I read about one cop with 2 sets of handcuffs, working alone at 2am, in one of the most notorious sex districts in Tokyo. Of course I could be wrong/uninformed--maybe he wasn't working alone. Sure makes me concerned about priorities and the public use of my taxes.

This is news? I don't care if if his handcuffs were stolen, as long as it wasn't his gun, and as long as he's doing his job which is to catch criminals. This article doesn't even say whether or not the woman he was chasing was apprehended or not (probably not)... it just focuses on the cop losing his handcuffs and looking like a fool. If each little trivial mistake the cops make is going to be reported like this, then why doesn't JT report each little trivial arrest and conviction that the cops make as well?

Why is this news?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Adult entertainment business? Handcuffs? Do you reckon the clowns have an idea where to start looking?

This happened last year too, but the cuffs were stolen from the cop's belt by a 14 year old kid while he was interrogating the kid's mates for smoking in a carpark.

So a 31yo police sergeant could not run down an adult industry worker (probablhy wearing a tight skirt and 6 inch stiletto heels) even without the added weight of his handcuffs and ropes. Must be in really good shape!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hmmm I wonder what the best place would be to sell handcuffs and ropes to make some money on the side.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

was it a louis vitton bag??

0 ( +0 / -0 )

OMG, this has so many S&M overtones it ridiculous. If only Jay Leno or Conan O'Brien could get their hands on this they could tear it up.

2 handcuffs, ok, but two ropes? Woman running away. and last but not least the adult entertainment district. So much fodder here its insane.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah I bet.....I suppose its better than the cop stealing the underwear.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Just too embarrassing to live in this j-world. Gotta get outttttaaa here.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

One of the top 10 J-cop stories, way to go!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm sure the 'cuffs will be put to good use. But do they have the key?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

ca1ic0cat: Awww, you beat me to it but I was going to say the cuffs would see more use at the adult entertainment business than if the cop kept them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cuffs I can see, but ropes? Do J-Cops really get training in rope bondage at the academy? That's bizarre.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

are we actually to believe this j-cop was "investigating" an adult entertainment business at 2 o'clock in the morning ?? alone & with 2 sets of handcuffs & rope. & since when do cops carry handcuffs in a bag ? hmmmmmmm

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Right jinjapan! Sounds more like he was carrying his own bag of sex toys!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At least those handcuffs will be put to good use.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Reminds me of one of Kurosawas early movies "Nora Inu" (Stray dog) where Toshiro Mifune plays a cop who goes undercover in 50ties seedy Tokyo to get back his police gun who got stolen.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wonder if whoever stole the handcuffs brought the key with them...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ropes? They need to investigate this guy. Going at 2am alone is also pretty hard to believe. Sounds like he was off duty and corrupt.

Japan Today is basically news for weeaboos. I mean, they never report anything serious. Just a bunch of laughable crimes that make Japan look ridiculous.

I have to agree with RickS

Waoooooすごい面白くない。 I agree with Ricks
