Couple arrested for punching 3-year-old daughter in face

Here we go again. What is wrong with these people? Who in their right mind lays into a 3 year old child. On reading this, I feel a sense both of despair and anger. Despair that such halfwits represent the future of this country, and anger as a parent.

I don't know if it is a good thing or not, but at least this time around the authorities got to the child before she was dead. Then again, rather than dithering over whether there was abuse or not, the authorities should have gone for the full court press from the start.

Anyway, does anybody know if their is a clause regarding "good standing" when becoming a nurse in Japan. If there is, the child's mother should be struck off if found guilty of these offenses. Moreover, I hope the police let them into that well known secret of police forces around the world. Namely, when extracting a confession from suspects who "don't remember the incident," a copy of a thick telephone book can come in very handy. To put this in another way, maximum pain with no blemishes to the skin (you don't need to cover up any bruises with foundation).

Finally, I hope the kid gets put up for adoption, and the parents get sent down for 10 to 15 years at least if found guilty.

Yikes! Two abusive parents. That's very scary. And the wife is supposed to be a nurse! Double yikes! It always shocks and saddens me to read about child abuse. And it always surprises me that it can go on for so long without anyone doing anything to stop it. Pray for this child's safe future!

I would say "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." The parents should be punched and kicked the same way they did to their daughter.

Poor girl, putting up with getting abuse for most of her life. I hope child services pull their thumbs out and give the parents the maximum punishment.

I really hope someone now takes this child and gives her the love she needs, rather than her ending up in "the system". We have room for a small one!

By Japanese standards, 30% of the population are mentally ill. I would not like to speculate the percentage by western standards. I see kids being abused in Japan every day and not just the ever-so-common public smack-down by a p!ssed off parent. In the real world, child abuse also extends into duty of care. Failing to provide a safe environment for kids is also abuse How many toddlers have fallen out of high rise windows recently? Even failing to put a seat belt on a kid is a form of abuse. How many times a day do you see kids jumping around in cars or with their faces planted up against the windscreen? This raises a serious question in my mind. What is wrong with these people? Are they so selfish they don't give a dam about their kids' safety and well-being? Are they really so carelessly stupid? Or, are they just plane retarded?

On a serious note, disillusioned has really hit the nail on the head. A lot of it is either abuse or negligence. Personally, negligence makes it easier for me to sleep at night.

This week one dude falls on an obaachan after jumping out a window in Sakai and now two parents are beating on a three year old.

Like so many low-class scum here, the parents are probably drunk, 24/7. Sure, drinking it up every day is socially accepted in Japan - as opposed to evil drugs - but a disgraceful way to justify child abuse.

the child welfare office had periodically gotten calls regarding the couple since March 2007 and had offered them counseling. The center was never able to find concrete evidence of abuse...

I believe this things happen even more commonly in other countries, it is just that in Japan, these sort of things get to be known, and we find it surprising maybe because it is Japan, and not just another third world country.

probably just the drunk husband and the wife was too afraid to speak out. it will all come out in the wash for him, at least I hope that is the case so that the girl and her mum can start over.

If the parents didn't have any memory of the incident, who put the foundation on the little girl's face? It's not like you can just smear it on there and it'll look fine; you have to blend and work at it. That means that even if the parents AREN'T guilty of abuse they're still guilty of not reporting a crime, because anyone who would punch a three-year-old in the face is absolutely a criminal.

I'd like to point out, too, that if Child Welfare has been receiving notices about this couple since March 2007, that means the potential abuse has been going on since the child was just a little baby. I hope to God she finds herself in a happier situation after this.

With previous reports looks like Child Services didn't take a closer look at the child. They may have found foundation on her then.

For both parents to use this child as a punching bag for frustations or hatred, who knows or cares, deserve to be used as punching bags themselves and much worse.

I think that when child abuse is a concern or is reported Child Servies needs to involve an MD to check the child out at the hospital before they come to the conclusion of not finding any evidence. This could have been caught much sooner...Poor Child!

i think the best punishment for these type of people is to exploit them to the public for their crime. Shame is categorized as the number one thing for "DON'T" within the Japanese family.

The lack of support (financial, education etc) can place a lot of stress on parents in the family destructive country. One knight with out protection leeds to a life of povety.

This kind of abuse happens everywhere, to be sure, but only does Japan pretend to be modern and has Child Services that react the way they did here. They knew about it for a while but couldn't "find any evidence". You see this time and time again in Japan: neighbours coming out and saying, "Yeah, we heard beating sounds and saw the beaten kids and suspected something", or teachers/schools ignoring bullying, etc., but no one wants to come forward and admit anything until it's too late.
