What’s wrong whit japan society? I am always surprised and disgusted about how many violent crimes, especially related to children, occur in this country. Shouldn't it be the most civilized and peaceful country in the world?

...officers visited Kanai's home that day and the following day. But they did not find that Kia or the other children had been injured.

Why not visit immediately, or accompanied by a doctor, or immediately demanding an x-ray at a hospital? In other cases, alcohol, blood or drug testing is done right at the scene, but here and in similar cases of DV or other abuse? Nothing...

Any other country they'd be locked away until they couldn't have kids.

of course the mother will get a suspended sentence because someone needs to look out for the other three children. The father will get 2-4 years of an unsuspended sentence, which will hopefully be enough time for the missus to divorce him, take the remaining kids, and move in with her parents.

*The mother was also quoted as telling the police, "My husband refused to take (her) to hospital, and I obeyed him." *The wife appears afraid of the husband I am sure he was abusing her and the other children also, she said she obeyed him. Wow what women won't protect their children, even dogs will die protecting their pups against aggressive foes. The husband will get some time in jail the wife will get off, but her other children may be taken away from her, which she probably won't mind because it would be a hard life for her to do so with out a criminal husband not being around.

Which is worse killing your own children or molestation . Truely Japan needs to acknowledge there is a serious problem here and they ignore it

How much training do the keystone cops have in identifying child abuse? The kid was malnourished and underweight. The cops should have noticed this.

When neighbors actually have enough guts to call the police, it's because it's pretty damn serious and convincing that something is wrong. The police and the wife here both dropped the ball. No need to mention the bone-breaking killer himself.

We now have a 2 month old baby and I can't IMAGINE not feeding her on time let alone ignoring any problems we see she has or think might be a problem. Anything, we at the doctors office. How could they abuse a 2-3month old baby. I'm sure it was because the baby was crying. This is so difficult to read! That innocent baby didn't ask for any of what happened to her. She just wanted love and attention.
