An 83-year-old man and his 83-year-old wife have been found dead in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, in what police believe was a murder-suicide.
According to police, a passerby called 119 at around 12:10 a.m. Thursday and said an elderly man was lying on the ground in front of an apartment building, Kyodo News reported. Police said the man lived in the apartment building.
Furthermore, at around 11:50 p.m., the man sent his daughter, who lives nearby, a message on a social networking site, hinting that he was going to commit suicide. The daughter rushed over to the apartment and found her mother lying unconscious on a bed, then called 110.
The man and his wife were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said there were no signs of external injury on the woman’s body and added that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. They suspect the man killed his wife and then jumped from the building. His shoes were found on the 10th floor from where he is believed to have jumped.
