A man and his wife, both in their 80s, were found dead at their home in Okayama City on Tuesday in what police believe was a murder-suicide.

According to police, the bodies of the man, 83, and his 80-year-old wife were found by their 56-year-old son when he went to visit them at around 12:30 p.m., Kyodo News reported. He had gone there after being called by his mother’s caregiver service to say that they had not been able to contact her about arranging a visit.

Police said the couple were declared dead at the scene. Both bodies were found in the first floor bedroom with knife wounds to their chests. A blood-stained knife was beside the man. Police believe the man stabbed his wife and then himself.

There were no signs of anyone having broken into the house.

Police said the son told them his mother had been ill for some time and that his father looked after her in between visits from a caregiver.

Couple in their 80s found dead in suspected murder-suicide in Japan:

Such saddening news brings my heart falling right down to a bottomless pit. Not the 1st time.

I could be in similar situation soon.

But could life be really so unbearable as to resort to such tragic scenario..?

This is what happens when you don't have, 'Right to Die Laws'. Everyone should be able to decide the time of their death especially as we age. No I don't believe your average young person should have carte blanche for ending one's life, they should be offered as much help and counseling as possible, but as you age and the mind and body deteriorate it should be your choice when to sleep forever.
