Police in Osaka said Sunday they are looking for two men who drove up behind cyclists in two separate incidents, bumped into them with their car and then robbed them.
According to police, the first incident occurred just before 3 a.m. Sunday in Abeno Ward. NTV reported that a man was riding his bike home when a car approached him from behind and bumped into him. The cyclist told police that while he was feeling disoriented, a man got out of the car's front passenger seat and grabbed his wallet, containing about 13,000 yen.
The cyclist suffered a leg injury, police said.
The second incident occurred about 10 minutes later in Sakai City. A woman riding a bike was knocked over by a car and her handbag containing 30,000 yen stolen. The woman suffered injuries to her arm and leg, police said.
Police said the car in both cases was a station wagon and added they are examining street surveillance camera footage to try and identify the vehicle through its license number.

People sure do carry a lot of money on them.

This is a very dangerous game the thieves are playing. One slip up and they will be wanted for murder instead of robbery. I hope the police catch them before it gets to that point. It is very common for office workers to go home late after late night drinking, unfortunately not by choice. I'm sure they would rather be safe at home in bed.

Abeno Ward and Sakai are neighbors so there is a high chance it is the same car. Both have "rough" parts so I bet there is a lot of news we don't hear.

@Speed, come off it, you know Japan is still very much a cash society. Isn't the average fifty thousand for Japanese people to be carrying?

I wonder if this wouldn`t count as attempted murder? Intentionally hitting someone with your car means you are knowingly committing an act with a high chance of killing someone and are at the very least indifferent to that outcome.
At any rate, i hope they do catch these guys and that they end up spending most of the rest of their lives behind bars for it.

Can only echo the sentiments of colleague Dennis. A very dangerous game indeed. In the wrong hands, a motor vehicle is a lethal weapon. I just hope the fuzz catch these clowns before somebody's head goes under the wheels "by mistake". Yeah, attempted murder and prosecution to the full extent of the law would be the best outcome.
