Still no controls in China - everything is pretty well cr@p still, from furniture to food. Certainly don't eat anything grown in that country. But the poor Chinese people have no choice!

When America feels wronged it just may seek to right many imbalances that have existed for some time. Pressure on manufactures that import/export Japanese products is just one area that Japan can expect more US pressure if Japan keeps going down the politically lucrative path of anti-Americanism.

semperfi,

"These dramatics by uSA, hitting out at different imports is the only measure left for USA trying to shore up its own faltering indigenous industries and sputtering economy."

The regulation of lead-tainted toys for children hardly constitutes dramatics. Tell you what: How about your send your name and address over to Daiso USA and have them ship all the lead tained toys to your home? You can lick them to your heart's content and see if anything medically dramatic develops with you sometime down the road.

some14some,

"Made in Japan and imported from Japan because there is no mention about China anywhere !"

That's a random and irresponsible accusation, to say the least. Daiso Japan is the same company that owns and operates the Daiso 100-yen Shop chain. Virtually all of their merchandise is manufactured in and imported from China.

I feel sorry for Japanese children, who have a government that thinks lead-based painted toys are fine for them.

Plus, I feel sorry for the people of China in general. If this is what they export, what are they doing to their products for domestic consumption? They're only hurting their own country I guess..

NHK announced their products are manufactured in Vietnam and China. They also said the toys meet Japanese standards.

Some Daiso products are still made in japan especially stationeries. I would say 90% are made in China.

?Not sure I see the connection. Walmart also carries hundreds of "Made >in China" products

Guess you don't live here in the States. Chinese products conatining lead or other toxic materials have been a problem with wide media coverage over the last few years. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/19/business/worldbusiness/19toys.html Mattel got hit big time and "toys made in China" are something of a running joke among American consumers as a result. It's still going on now: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/01/11/health/main6080353.shtml

"Anyone who has ever been in a Daiso store and seen anything other than "made in China" raise your hand!"

Not sure I see the connection. Walmart also carries hundreds of "Made in China" products- but they do not contain "illegal levels of lead content, illegal levels of lead paint and phthalates, small parts on toys intended for young children, and products that lack required warning labels."

This is a huge step back for Daiso. Unfortunately the 2 million dollar penalty seems insufficient.

LOL. Anyone who has ever been in a Daiso store and seen anything other than "made in China" raise your hand!

Another business leader out of Japan who obviously doesn't give a damn about the American public, especially it's children !

"Yoshi Murata, a senior executive at Daiso, said the company accepts the fine"

Yeh, much like other J companies in the news these past months you have no right to sell your poison to unsuspecting consumers in far away nations- you will get caught !

"We know we must comply,” Murata said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press."

This sounds like they really don't want- but hey, they got caught so they "must" ! Shameful behaviour !

"CPSC spokesman Scott Wolfson said the company had been warned several times about violating safety standards."

This really is the kicker though isn't it. "warned several times" ? See a pattern coming out of Japan yet ?

"The commission accused Daiso of importing, distributing and selling toys with illegal levels of lead content, illegal levels of lead paint and phthalates, small parts on toys intended for young children, and products that lack required warning labels."

Poison ! Pure and simple- this stuff will rot your brain and sicken your children for life ! How dare Daiso put corporate profits ahead of the safety concerns of Americas children ! Forget the fine, pack your bags and go- get out of America and take your unethical business practices with you ! Truly shameful !

Seems like some folks here haven't heard about a thing called lead poisoning.

Behind the times as usual I see.

The reason everything is ¥105 is that it's all made in China. I don't know what world you're living in....

yes, i don't know which world i am living in, let me get back to serious business...there has to be some merit for US importers for buying China made toys from Daiso and not directly from China. Fine for Daiso -fine with China !

Made in Japan and imported from Japan because there is no mention about China anywhere !

Have you been to Daiso lately? Try finding a product that says "Made in Japan" there. The reason everything is ¥105 is that it's all made in China. I don't know what world you're living in....

Since 2008, Daiso California LLC and Daiso Seattle LLC have had five recalls of 698 toys and other children’s products.

Looks like they were emulating the success of Mattell. That great, wonderful, American company. Importing Chinese toxic toys could be considered one of their greatest non-achievements I'd say. Daiso just wanna play with the big boys.

cheap toys.

Lead poisoning is very slow, so of course you won't know anything yet. When the kids that put these in their mouths start having trouble after going to school with their education, then you will have your answers.

paragraph four: "While the total number of recalled items was relatively small and no injuries were reported, the head of the commission says the civil penalty and consent decree barring imports sends a message." Wow! If this is the fine for recalled toys that hurt no one, I am beginning to feel for Toyota.
