Torture. Disposed of evidence. Fabricated evidence. Dissenting judges. Denial of retrail, despite the exposure of the aforementioned.... now where were those "checks and balances"?

Hakamada, now 72, has spent decades alone in a cell. His family says his mind has sharply deteriorated, and he frequently makes no sense when he speaks.

Case closed.

The case gets international exposure. Japan gets embarrassed. Something will finally get done.

Nothing will get done. People wrongly accused of crimes and sentenced to prison and death are a dime a dozen. That's just the way it is.
