Dentsu to pay Y2.4 billion for overtime work

This company should be banned from government contracts, including the Olympics.

I hate to blame the victim, but one part of adulthood is being competent and standing up for yourself. When the company illegally treats you as a slave you need to man up.

And lose your job.

So the question is, do you suffer being treated poorly, while still having a job and making money, or do you stand up for your values, and have no job and make no money. Not an easy decision.

Japan has a lot of great things is should be proud of, but one of the worst things about this country is the abusive work 'culture'. I'm doubting this will make a dent in Dentsu's ignorance of staff health either.

Self improvement by checking data? What administrative manager came up with that horsepucky? And how many meetings did they have to decide on that phrase - Overtime meetings, too, I suspect.

It's hard for employees to stand up for themselves in a country where employers' focus is on recruiting new graduates who are under 24.

As for Dentsu, they're just another nail that is not being hammered down. Remember that the next time someone uses that tired expression. Dentsu overworks their staff because there are no significant repercussions. I'm sure they will have amakudari, but it would probably happen even without them.

And what did I say yesterday? You can NEVER open up a Japanese paper or online news site without reading about corporate scandal in Japan. NEVER. Dentsu paying what amounts to a few days of revenue means NOTHING when they keep on doing what they are doing, which I guarantee they are, and there is no REAL punishment. Send the execs to prison and you MIGHT see things change, but nope -- a bow and a "moushiwake nai" are what is now "made in Japan". Forced overtime, data falsification, substandard products... TIJ.

@kohakuebisu - Dentsu ARE the force behind the Olympics in Japan. 2-3 floors of their HO is dedicated to it. They facilitated the 2M$ contracting fee to the fixer in Singapore. And with their massive influence over the Japanese mass media through placing commercial and advertising revenue; many newspapers will not print anything negative, for fear of losing revenue.
