Law-enforcement is done by these people. Police or the officers at these centers. The public servants. They are not robots, they do have emotion and humane feeling but serving for the public under the rule. You all like BS-ing Japanese Police and I also don't like them really inflexible but they cannot step out the boundary drawn by the written law.

The woman is Asian. She would have received a different treatment if she's white. Look at how the Ugandan athlete and Belarus athlete were treated during the Olympics.

If possible, please enlighten us all how many whites or the proportion of whites actually being detained for illegal entry/overstaying and rejecting deportation

Yeah, come to think of it.

I still remember the poor Nepalese guy who was framed for the murder of a prostitute. Not one word of apology to him when he was finally released.

Regarding the decision to detain her, the report will say that the facility did not conduct a hearing as required by immigration agency rules after Wishma told them she was a victim of domestic violence by her live-in partner, according to the source.

How would that change anything about the decision to detain her, I must wonder. She's being detained because she doesn't have a valid visa and because she (likely egged on by those rights groups) refused to go home. Nobody disputes that her live-in partner DVed her, but why that is an excuse to stay in Japan (right next to supposed DVer) rather than be returned to Sri Lanka (thousands of kilometers from alleged DVer) is never explained.

The people at the immigration probably been itching for a promotion. They caught a visa violator! Rejoice!

Little do they know the backlash of their incompetence. You detain someone, you put that persons life under your responsibility. Immigration officials obviously didn’t know about this because well, incompetent slobs.

The punishment for visa violation is deportation, not death. No spin on this can make her death right.

The family and supporters sued officers or the facility already. If they must see an entire video footage,

they can let their lawyer(s) to demand as such at the court.

At this point, J-government decided to release a part of it without such court order.

Since the footage covers nearly two weeks of her life at the immigration center, the agency will show only selected parts. They are believed to include scenes immediately before her death and those mentioned in the report.

What a complete BS and infuriating statement.

Give all the footage. I'm sure the family would prefer to see it all rather than an edited and white-washed series of clips :(

Release all or none, selective recordings don't show what happened, they show what the centre wants to say

The agency is likely to admit there was a problem in the treatment of Wishma at the Nagoya Regional Immigration Services Bureau in Aichi Prefecture and discipline senior officials at the facility who were in charge, the source said.

Admitting to a mistake is useful if it leads to changes which prevent similar occurrences.

Otherwise it’s an exercise in futility!!!

That immigration agents should get exactly the same treatment they gave her.

Their fellow agents must learn how to treat people humanely and respectfully.

North Korea, China ,Japan are so similar. Why ?

Some parts of the footage are likely to be edited for security reasons, the source said.

Taking lessons from Russia, Belarus, China and Trump-era USA, I see.

One must respect the laws of the host country and not ignore the rules and regulations designed to ensure public safety.

Willful noncompliance has resulted in unfortunate consequences for all involved.

Miserable criminals.. "admit there was a slight miscommunication problem"? The whole bunch should do years in prison for murdering a person... And of course they will all be exonerated... Shouganaineee...

What a joke.. they were not aware of her request for medical attention despite her and her supporters asking multiple times? Just a bunch of liars. In any other developed country this would be manslaughter, but in Japan, it's a slap on wrist with a government approved coverup.

Some parts are likely to be edited for…

So basically before they had claimed the video was not to be shown for “security issues”.

Now you will be shown an edited version.

It is astounding if you consider how basically you can edit your way into innocence?

There seems to be no internal agency that oversees immigrations, so they can edit things as they please.

It's going to be a painful experience for his family to watch this video.

They only show parts that they want Wishma's family to see.
