The police are questioning him on suspicion of abandoning and damaging a body.

Before anyone goes nuts about why the cops are questioning him about this, it's a potential "catch-all" type of charge that will allow them to detain the suspect for further questioning as they investigate if there was any foul play involved!

I hate violence of any kind, family murders due to deep problems is better than drive by shooting, gangbanging, religious fundamentalism or racism.

Actually I would say 50%/50% chance as the cause of death is unclear.

One other option is she died of some disease or natural causes and the son had no money to pay for the cremation and funeral and took it to himself to dispose of the body, maybe figuring that a whole body would be more suspicious! Who knows?!?!
