Police on Monday said they have arrested a 60-year-old doctor over the theft of 100 items of women's underwear in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Akira Hoshina, works at Ise Red Cross Hospital. TV Asahi reported that he was arrested for allegedly stealing four panties from a hotel bathhouse between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on March 3. Hoshina was staying at the hotel by himself at that time.

Police started investigating the case after receiving a complaint from one of the women guests at the hotel and identified the suspect based on eyewitness reports.

Police were quoted as saying that a search of Hoshina's home revealed 100 panties.

I new a girl in the JET program who lived way out in the countryside. She had her panties stolen repeatedly while she was living in a little town of 3000 people. At first she just laughed it off - "what's he gonna do with it? wear it on his head?" - but given that it was such a small town word quickly spread that someone was stealing her undies. Catching the panty thief became a minor cause celebre, so the thief would go quiet and then steal again when things calmed down.

I thought it would be creepy as hell but she always laughed it off and told me she visualized it being her boss, who was kind of a jerk. She left after only one year, so maybe it impacted her decision to renew but on the surface it never seemed to bother her. She always laughed about it and said if she caught him she'd smack his face off. She was a Scottish girl - pretty fearless - though I wondered how in the hell the kids ever understood a word she said. They never caught the panty thief who struck about six times during her stay.

wonder what kind of sentencing you get for stealing women's underwear?? If he has to appear in court, this could be quite embarrassing I would think..."...and what the defendent have to say the purpose in stealing such articles?" "aaaahhh, I like to smell and wear them?" He picked the wrong industry, he should work in the dry cleaning busines.

First off, he committed a crime; does the level of the crime dictate whether he should be searched?

Yes, absolutely it does...

Littering is a crime too, so if the police catch someone littering, they should conduct a search of their home and premises..?

I really don't understand what's the big deal with smelling other people's underwear or sheos!?!. I love women but what would posses you to want to smell their crotch after they've worn the underwear? SMH!

Weird stuff.

Guys, ladies' underwear is actually pretty expensive, and something they often treasure. Having it stolen, especially regularly, would be more than a small nuisance.

Nevermind the obvious humiliation of it being your underwear, and the fear that a worse attack could be in store...

guess some guys are more interested in the gift wrapping than the "gift"

Chin4Sailor: Gotta disagree with you on this one. First off, he committed a crime; does the level of the crime dictate whether he should be searched? I agree with you there is a bizarre conundrum here with letting the yakuza do what they do and not punishing them -- in fact, going to parties to celebrate it as former police chiefs have -- but all the same it is an example of the very, very common perversion that is rampant here (or at least, better reported). Anyway, I think the bottom line is SOMEWHAT what you indirectly express -- the police need to uphold the law, but make more effort when it does not directly, adversely affect them.

Really a Doctor Stealing Panties Rises to the level of a Warrant being Issued for his house...? Really...? Over Panties...? I can see if the guy was suspected of selling drugs or stealing expensive Jewelry, but Underwear...? In Most countries that's NOT even considered a felony, because it has to be of at least a certain monetary value.. Unless they were Gold Plate Underwear...? Another first for Japan... Oh, but let's allow Yakuza / Organized Crime to thrive in the open, yet, we're going to devote valuable police resources to conducting a Raid / Warrant Search on the home of a 60-Year old Doctor, with No Prior Criminal Record... Oh ~ Ok Makes Complete Sense.... (¬_¬)......

Why doesn't he just steal his wife's underwear and pretend it's some random woman's?

I can't understand, beyond my reasoning ability....?????

"You're nicked, Knicker nicker!"

This is not unusual for Japan. Nothing is wrong with the Doc., just the society.

Be grateful if you and your loved ones or friends don't suffer with mental disorder or any other mental illness and have compassion on those who do. This doctor needs treatment. Cognitive behavior therapy and psychoanalysis or a behavior supervision on proportional timing while not practicing any sexual activity for not activating the fetish. Sadly most people who have a fetish never seek treatment from professionals. However this type of behavior can cause serious social and legal consequences. Therefore it would be very wise to consider getting rehabilitated.

Nessie!! Too funny!!

My house is so cluttered with dirty laundry, clean laundry not folded and put away, and hanging laundry drying. I am just to busy to keep it tidy all the time.

I simply cannot fathom the desire to go out there and collect other ppl's laundry to add to my own. I have more than enough...

@Nessie

Ha! I just experienced a nasal coffee ejaculation!

Medical négligéence.

Caught stealing underwear. Can you imagine having to explain that to your family/spouse?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I really don't get some Japanese men's fascination with used underwear. Someone stole mine too and there were a few people who blamed me for hanging them out to dry. Uhm...

Leave the guy alone for crying out loud, there are much worse things than this.

"Doctor arrested for stealing women's underwear"

"Police were quoted as saying that a search of Hoshina’s home revealed 100 panties."

I think I saw this also on W3.newsonjapan.& W3.tokyoreporter

quite a bizarre story indeed.

Used underwear? Eeeeew! Bloody sickos! I'll give him a pair of mine if he likes them so much. I'll even wear them for a week before I give them to him. They will be special!

@smithinjapan ""Hope he loses his license at the very least." I hear ya...his strange covert fetish(s) outweighed his medical practice in the end....

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Hope he loses his license at the very least.

What a hell is wrong with this doc?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The always "undress, please" doctor? ;)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Bath house? Was this bath house co-ed? Or did he just walk up into the womens lockerroom?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

TeeHee. You'd think a doctor would see far too much of women's underwear. Weird.
