Doctor arrested for taking lewd photos of sisters during check-up

Police said Friday they have arrested the assistant director of a public hospital in Hiroshima for allegedly taking lewd photographs of two young sisters, during a check-up at the hospital last November.

Police said this is the third time Manabu Kurome, 40, has been arrested. He was awaiting a trial on separate charges of violating prefectural nuisance prevention ordinances.

According to police, Kurome is suspected to have hidden a small digital camera under documents on his desk while examining two sisters aged 11 and 8 who had taken their shirts off for the check-up. Kurome was quoted by police as saying that, while he did take the photos, he denied that it could be construed as indecent assault, the charge under which he was arrested.

The initial public hearing of the peeping photos case in which Kurome was first arrested was held in Hiroshima district court the day before his most recent arrest, and prosecutors said in their opening statements that Kurome had been taking lewd photos of women using hidden cameras since 2008.

third time? simply sick! why he gets to go back to clinic again?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Third arrest... I guess if you're the assistant director of the hospital, they give you lots of extra chances before you lose your job.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Insane, first time should have been enough then they go on to let him get on with his perverted ways,he should have had his license taken away the first time and NOT have been ABLE to PRACTICE until the first trial was taken care of properly, then after the second time they still let him keep his license...ppl are even more sick than him to let him get away with it! And didn't the ppl taking their children to this "doctor" know of the former claims? Hope not!

He'll lose his job if he gets a guilty verdict, you can count on that. AD's don't last long when guilty. Until then, they are presumed innocent, as it should be. 40 is really young to be AD in a public hospital. He is well published, so he probably retains his job because of his reputation as a doctor, for the moment. *Before anyone gets angry, I do not condone his actions.

He was awaiting a trial on separate charges of violating prefectural nuisance prevention ordinances.

Ok I guess innocent until proven guilty..

Kurome was quoted by police as saying that, while he did take the photos, he denied that it could be construed as indecent assault, the charge under which he was arrested.

sounds to me like he's guilty...

The hospital could revise its rules on doctoral sex abuse issuing strict statements promising to clear injustices of the past.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hm, at first I thought it was his own sisters because of the headline and I was also thinking that they were full grown. I was thinking..."what??"

As for him being innocent until proven guilty, didn't he already admit to the charges? He only seems to be arguing about the actual meaning of the charges, whether it's considered indecent assault or maybe in his mind some lesser charge of some sort of privacy issue.

no one can be trusted.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's clear as day that their pervertedness was a real motivation to pursue their careers. Not only that, these are the losers that got caught! Who knows how many of these perverted Dr, Cops, Teachers, etc are still out there enjoying their "perks" of the job.

Revoke his license...no not in Japan, he will be transfered somewhere.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How is this perv still working as a doctor?! And with children no less?? Pull his licence and hand him over to the yakuza.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Geez,this is a doctor Japan,what do you expect ??

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Its always the ones who are supposed to protect the young and innocent. What a sick world we sometimes live in

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Geez,this is a doctor Japan,what do you expect ??

I guarantee you 99% of doctors in Japan or anywhere else for that matter do not do this. the 1% of sick hentai do not represent a whole race

0 ( +0 / -0 )

and no, I am not defending this criminal. I am defending the majority of decent folk you just slandered.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It is illegal to film anyone without their strict permission in Japan, they should throw on every charge they can and revoke his license.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

mikehuntz, what prompted you to thik that way? Just to let yo know, many young children are shy to talk about such incidents because they are afraid and feel let down by the adults.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am so tired of reading this kind of story in Japan. They never seem to change.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't understand, for the assistant director of a public hospital would make enough money to buy a call girl, or go to a hostess club? The ages are strange for a guy 40 yrs old?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I suspect that there is something missing from the above story because it would be normal to suspend a doctor during investigation. Yes even in Japan. So there has to be more to this that isn’t finding its way into the story. It is probable that his admissions and excuses relate to his last arrest. It is also strange that there doesn’t seem to be any information about how he was caught.

How many Japanese medical doctors do you all know to generalize that way? I know hundreds of them and I work with them everyday and I can tell you that they are all very, very professional. I cannot disagree more with the way you are putting them all in the same group, the "hentai" group. These people are super compassionate and they try very hard to help their patients, (you and your family) day in and day out.

proudnippon is absolutely correct in his assessment.

It's not the doctors in Japan. Most are not criminals. That's not the problem as such. It's the way Japanese society works - it allows these criminal scum to carry on working even after after they've been arrested before.

I'd like to hear how you and posters like bicultural are going to defend the stupid way things work here in Japan. These proud posters are always on the offensive when any criticism appears on JT, and yet there's a lack of criticism of the 'Japanese way of of doing things' when criminals like these and child murderers are given light sentences.

third time arrested yet still practicing??... lets keep our heads in the sand and pretend nothing has happended - typical japan... why confront a problem when we have to maintain 'wa' - harmony at all costs - dont rock the boat...

Thanks for the shout-out, pukes. I'm flattered. I actually made a comment but it got deleted. Anyway, there's no way I am going to defend this piece of crap. I'm gonna say let's implement the 3 strikes you're out rule, as in no more license ever and a long long time in jail.

Actually, I just noticed! What kira says is true 100%, not even light sentences, man...just your typical MADE IN JAPAN ONLY Suspended Sentences...so everyone, child murderers, rapists, pedos can benefit from it.

The Japanese doctors that I have dealt with over the last 5 years have been very professional. This Doctor is 1 of a few 1000 that is sick and should be treated as such. Please do not treat Japanese medicine from this one sick individual.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There are a lot of true statements being posted.

But I still have something to kick in. How did this guy get to be a doctor? The answer is probably that he was somebody's rich kid and was pushed to it without having a strong desire to help people or a sense about what is right and wrong.

Some person with less money than he had could not get into medical school because this guy took that slot. So the tragedy is double. This guy becomes a doctor who hurts people, and somebody who wanted to help people got frozen out.

I can't say that this guy's problem is caused by that system, but the system itself deserves some scrutiny for producing Dr. Pedo.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Weird. How did he get caught?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

this guy needs to be struck off

No 1 for putting a black mark on the medical profession No 2 being old enough to know better, gee an 8 and 11 year old.

Now if he was taking Lewid pictures of the Kano sisters what would happen then, EWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

The 7 years I was in Japan I found the medical profession to be professional, but some not very competent.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Weird. How did he get caught?

Every pervert is caught sooner or later. Perverts should keep it in mind.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wanna know how he got caught, too.

Just the other day, a bunch of my SHS students were having medical check-ups... I heard it was some doctor in his 70's checking the boys and then the girls, the latter also pulling up their tops in front of him. There were female nurses present, but still, stuff like this gives me the creeps.

“I heard it was some doctor in his 70's checking the boys and then the girls, the latter also pulling up their tops in front of him. There were female nurses present, but still, stuff like this gives me the creeps.”

Now you are just being silly, it is quite normal and necessary for doctors to examine young girls. There are counties in the world where it is not allowed for a male doctor to examine a female and there are likely to be no female doctors in such place either. Women die because of this. Are you going to object if a doctor of the opposite gender needs to examine you? Please keep in mind that there are gay and lesbian doctors. “Oh no! who can I possibly trust?” Don’t worry too much, I think most doctors can be trusted.

learn to read. THIS HAPPENS EVERYWHERE. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST? just blame someone else? some other country? child abuse is a racial issue? don't be so ignorant. I am NOT DEFENDING THE CRIMINAL. I am NOT GIVING THE ANSWER. I am defending the millions of people getting racially profiled. I am not a japan apologist. I am just anti idiotic bigot racist fool. or pro common sense, whichever you find easier to understand/squeeze into your tiny world view.

this is a big leap. he took photos. yes he's a scumbag. you want to lump him in with child murderers? let me guess...if left unchecked he'll kill kids? I understand your paranoia and fear, it's quite normal. but hold off on the public lynching for just a moment. if certain posters here had their way every street light would have someone hanging from it. and again just in case you are having that 'reading' problem again I AM NOT DEFENDING THIS CRIMINAL

From this article, the laws pertaining to the photos being taken is not illegal because of their age? Are the laws concerning this situation very different than, say US. In the US, it would be illegal because of age and conduct unbecoming a doctor. Could you clarify?

Yes, I wish to ask this "character" proudnippon exactly the same thing... I'll be waiting for your prompt answer!!

The reason I ask this question is, prior to the SCAP Occupation, I believe marriage was allowed for children under 16 yrs of age - this is not uncommon in agrarian, ancient cultures.

Of course I'm not opposed to male gynecologists. I'm simply suggesting that depending on the situation there needs to be precaution, given the cases above (which of course never happen, right?).

The guy is scum, but not a "child murderer". This issue is more at the level of a guy taking a picture under the skirt of a 11 yrs old and the important job he held?

Obviously, psychology is not your bag, or science in general. One of the most disturbing things about this board is the way people are so damned sure of themselves. In fact, it is quite possible that he entered his field with nothing but the purest of intentions. I think its quite possible that those intentions could not remain so pure when exposed to naked females and an element of control over them. Before going ape over this, I think its important to realize that MOST men could not handle the responsiblity of the situation, but such men usually don't make it to being a licensed doctor.

And before anyone attack me, do you have a line of females coming to your door that you can tell to remove their clothes but you can't do anything else? If not, you can't tell me how you would handle it. I know you think you can, but you can't.

Anyway, I think we need doctors more than we need to worry about "lewd" picture taking. If he has learned his lesson it is worth the small risk he might reoffend. To think otherwise is risk someone's health over pictures and that would be mental.

grafton said: Now you are just being silly, it is quite normal and necessary for doctors to examine young girls. There are counties in the world where it is not allowed for a male doctor to examine a female

Yes, and the reason for that is for those primitive people in those primitive countries thinking the same primitive thoughts that so often grace this board. The joke is the people with such thoughts think they are modern because they watch TV and drive a car I suppose.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"I think its important to realize that MOST men could not handle the responsibility of the situation"

The truth is that there are very FEW doctors who are pedophiles, or perverts.. in fact some of them who regularly see women undress become desensitized by it. This article is about a repeat-offender.. so it is more than a "small risk he might re-offend" The truth is that he is continually offending, (prosecutors said in their opening statements that Kurome had been taking lewd photos of women using hidden cameras since 2008) that is at least 2 years worth of repeat offenses. Nobody should be making ANY excuses for this man's planned acts of perversion, setting up hidden cameras to photograph his female patients, including small children. This man needs to lose his license to practice medicine.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

death penalty...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There shouldn't be any excuses. The guy has done this more than once, and needs to be thrown in jail.

So according to some, we should live with the "slight risk" of him reoffending, for the sake of keeping a doctor? Well, then what about the poor patients that are traumatized, what about their rights to privacy and self respect? Their trust in doctors is shattered, and we're supposed to look the other way? Don't think so.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"do you have a line of females coming to your door that you can tell to remove their clothes but you can't do anything else?"

Umm... you did read the part about the girls being 11 and 8 right?

If this happened to my daughter the doctor involved would still be at the hospital, but as a patient.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

mokgohan: Um, if it was my daughter, that doctor would be in the ward in the basement of the hospital, with the chilled "individual" rooms.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

mokgohan said: Umm... you did read the part about the girls being 11 and 8 right?

I sure did. I could reword the question to include 11 and 8 year old girls, but do I need to? I have family back in the U.S. that never tried sushi, but they swear its horrible. What is the difference with this? How about you go work at an elemementary school for a year or two and then come back and tell us that not one girl interested you at all. Don't tell me from your insulated ivory tower that that could never happen. Go see. You might lighten up a bit after that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

the_sicilian said: Well, then what about the poor patients that are traumatized,

Your imagination has gotten the better of you. The word "traumatized" is not mentioned in the article.

what about their rights to privacy and self respect?

You put those ahead of their health? How backward.

The guy has been arrested and shamed several times for what he allegedly did. If he did it, I am sure there is a good chance he has learned his lesson for all time. Or is there no forgiveness or second chances in your world?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This article is about a repeat-offender..

We don't what his previous arrest and trial were about.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It is not about his previous charges involving "charges of violating prefectural nuisance prevention ordinances", but rather the opening statement of the prosecution that said the man has been "taking lewd photos of women using hidden cameras since 2008" that makes him a repeat offender. He openly admits to taking the photos "Kurome was quoted by police as saying that, while he did take the photos, he denied that it could be construed as indecent assault, the charge under which he was arrested." So while the man admits that he is taking photographs of naked women and underage children patients, he feels that he should not be held accountable for the offense. In truth it does not matter if he is also a doctor.. nothing about who or what ever else he may be excuses his criminal acts of perversion. That is the point that a certain commenter seems to keep missing - just because he is a doctor it does not excuse his acts at all. And although a certain commenter has explained that he feels most men could not cope with the responsibility that a doctor has and not be able to control his lust - such excuses are personal and not based in reality. In truth there are very few doctors that sexually offend, and those that do lose their license. The few doctors who do sexually offend throw away 7, 8 or maybe 12 years of training and internship all because they are not emotionally mature enough to control themselves and are mentally unstable due to their own psycho-sexual disorders. The acts are illegal and therefore the man was arrested - you may excuse his acts as harmless in your own mind but that changes nothing in reality.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is not a matter of second chances, OR a question of excusing sexual perversion in exchange for having a doctor - there are so many many other doctors who are not sexual offenders; the world can cope FINE without this man who has by his own admission been taking naked hidden photographs of his patients since 2008. This man (and from the text, a certain commenter) want his perversion to be excused because he feels it is harmless. But then most perverts suffer from this delusion. They always make excuses for their own criminal acts. They look at crimes involving rape or murder and then say see? just peeping or hidden photos or even groping are all harmless. The truth is that they are guilty of criminal perverse acts, but they wish us to excuse them, forgive them.. even though it will continue then. They have no thoughts about the emotional effects their acts cause upon others - they instead focus on what they did NOT do. They say well oki so i took a picture of her naked and she did not know - it is not as if i raped her ne? They try to mislead us into comparing apples and oranges when in fact the only difference in the law is the allowable legal punishment. In other words, lewd conduct involving a minor does not carry as heave a possible sentence as rape or murder do. Make no mistake - groping and lewd photo taking and pedophilia ARE criminal acts and they DO harm others and they ARE prosecuted by law. To fall into silly comparison with other offenses is exactly what the sexual offenders want you to do; they feel it gives them excuse for the crimes they commit. The tactic is juvenile and transparent but sadly some times still effective when used on naive bystanders.
