Police said Monday they have arrested a 29-year-old man after the car he was driving hit a group of girls on their bicycles in Yachimata, Chiba Prefecture, on Sunday night.
According to police, the girls were returning home from a local festival when the incident occurred just before 10 p.m. TBS quoted police as saying that a car driven by Tsuyoshi Morooka, hit the group and then kept going. Four of the five girls were taken to hospital; three suffered light injuries, while a 13-year-old girl suffered a broken leg, police said.
Police said Morooka had been at the same festival where he had been drinking heavily. After the incident, he told police he drove home and remained in the car outside in order to sleep it off, TBS reported. His wife saw the damaged car with her husband asleep inside and notified police.© Japan Today
