Ehime man arrested for killing mother, putting body in freezer

A 41-year-old man was arrested for murder and abandoning a corpse on Tuesday after he allegedly strangled his 82-year-old mother to death last Saturday and put her body in a freezer at the yakiniku restaurant he managed with her.

Koji Yamada is accused of strangling his mother with his hands and a cord at around 3 p.m. last Saturday, and putting her body in a large freezer in their restaurant in Uwajima City. Yamada has admitted to the allegations and told police he had an argument with his mother over financial matters.

Yamada told police he took a bus to Osaka after killing his mother, and took a ferry from there on Monday night, bound for Oita Prefecture. He jumped off the ferry in an attempt to commit suicide, but floated some 500 meters to Ushijima island in Kagawa Prefecture. Yamada called police Tuesday morning and confessed to the crimes.

This is why you don't live with your parents at this age

I'm sure this is not why parents have kids.

Yakiniku restaurant. Human body parts in freezer.

Not a good combination.

What could he have done to avoid the charge of "abandoning a corpse"?

Could have just moved out! (either one of them)

Doesn't that assume some rationality? Or, do you think the killer arrived at that a murderous conclusion rationally?

I'd be getting my stomach pumped if I'd eaten there recently.

kirakira: As usual, a witty remark that me smile despite the gruesomeness of the story.

Body in a freezer at yakiniku restaurant--gross!

Financial matters--Well, it says they managed the restaurant together so it's understandable that they would discuss money. But if they lived together too...Yikes! That's a recipe for disaster. (no pun intended)

"told police he had an argument with his mother over financial matters" Do otoshidama payments finish at 40 but no one told Koji?

Kept her in his own bed? Who knows? It's really a bogus charge.

Sounds like another Jeffrey Dahmer in the making. Better check his refrigerator/freezer at home! Anyone else in the family or neighborhood gone missing recently?

May the victim rest in peace - what a truly horrible way to go. So very, very pathetically sad...

Mr. Yamada-san, the Yakiniku owner always replied to his customers, would you like that Tare de or Shio de. I ate there once. Great tan shioyaki.

Disgusting and sad.

Proof, money is the root of all evil! All this over financial matters...

Some of you are disgusted about the body in a freezer of a restaurant that we know about... I'm more concerned about all those we don't!
