An inmate who went missing Monday morning at a prison in Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, was found about three hours later on the rooftop of the prison.

According to police and Matsuyama prison officials, the 23-year old male inmate, who had been jailed for theft, could not be found at around 8:30 a.m. after he had breakfast. He was last seen at a prison workshop. Prefectural police were notified of a possible prison break, Fuji TV reported.

While police were on the hunt for his whereabouts, the escaped inmate was found on the rooftop of a prison dormitory at 11:35 a.m.

A prison spokesman apologized at a press conference for causing so much trouble for police and anxiety to residents living within the vicinity of the prison.

Did he escape to the rooftop? Get locked on the rooftop? Was in a normal prisor area? Not enough information JT
