A 3rd-year elementary school student was attacked and knocked off his bicycle by a man in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, police said Tuesday.

According to police, the young boy was riding his bike near Kawabe Elementary School at around 4 p.m. Monday when a man suddenly ran up to him and grabbed his chest and yanked him off the bike, NTV reported. Police said the man then punched the boy in the face before running away.

The boy ran into the school grounds, crying and with his nose bleeding, police said.

The attacker was described as being in his 50s, dressed in black with a cap and wearing sunglasses.

It's just my first year in Japan, but it seems that every time I read a story like this, it's in Saitama. o.0

I'll keep an eye out for a man with a cap, would that be a flat cap, an army cap or a baseball cap .Give yourselves a round of thumbs up for thumbing down the attacker.

He didn't even take the boy's money? Cruelty aside, the pointlessness of this is astounding...

Actually, I believe that's now THREE for Saitama today : Lady climbing up a railway pole, a "hit-and-run" and now this punk grabbing a young boy and punching him...

What a cowardly bastard for picking on a child. Why doesn't he try that on a man his own size. People or so damn sick, it ridiculous!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Isn't it obvious? This guy is angry...at change! Guys like him believe that they can do anything. But then, everything changes around them and they lose their status on the top ladder and eventually they start taking anger out on women, government, even children!

I hope this 50 year old idiot gets his scum a$$ arrested ASAP or that he tries to attack another kid and when he runs away like the cowardly bastard that he is, run out on to Route 16 and just happens to get hit by a few big rigs!

ON POINT! some say the "effect of abenomics" perhaps can't afford fuzoku anymore or get some form of graft from it....

I see these walking time bombs, walking around Metro Tokyo too. They appear to be mad at the world. But want to release themselves in some of the fiendish ways I have ever heard of.

every time a crime is reported in saitama there's lots of comments about it being a "rough" "crime area" etc. i live in England so i honestly don't know about saitama, is it really so bad??

@smig1975

Not as bad as most people portrait. At least I did not need to stay in high alert there. Unlike when I was in Philippines, Sri Lanka or even New York subway during odd hours and places.

Let's not forget, this is the fourth young kid to be beaten by a stranger in the last two months. There have been many other cases in the last year or so. Remember the loon that was getting off on stamping in kids' feet? I would really like to say this was an isolated incident, but it is not! Very often some nut bag attacks an innocent child. You can go back five or six years to when some loon picked up a four year old kid and threw him off an overpass onto the train tracks. I'm not gonna say that all Japanese are nuts, but there was a report released a few years ago stating that 27% of Japanese adults have some sort of mental illness. That's nearly one in three! That is without counting the sexually perverted, which is not considered a mental disease on Japan. Keep your eyes open and your kids close people! Especially if you are going to Saitama!

No! it is as safe as any other place in Japan. Saitama prefecture has a population of 7 million people. Now if you were to compare Manchester UK with it's 2.4 million people or even Ireland as a whole with it's 5.5 million people . There is a greater chance of an innocent person being shot or mugged . Thumbs up to all who know Saitama.

Jeffery, been here 34 years. Japan has really changed a lot. It's is getting weirder and weirder day by day, week by week and month by month. Notice I left out year by year.

Could it be that the "Knockout Game" is appearing in Japan?

-1 ( +1 / -1 )

Forget it, Jake, it's Saitamatown.

I wonder if the perp thought the cyclist was not following the rules. Some of these geezers have no idea what the cycling rules are, and they spout off accordingly.
